New Assistant Principal
With Ms. Gedville's hire, Mr. Rowlands will move to be the full-time AP at Millburn Middle School and Ms. Gedville will be the full-time AP at Millburn Elementary starting next school year.
Welcome Ms. Gedville to Millburn Elementary!
Ms. Kari Gedville
Mrs. Kari Gedville has been in education for 19 years. For the past four years she has been the Assistant Principal at a K-5 building with Wauconda School District. Prior to that she taught 5th and 6th grade, as well as, gifted education for 15 years with Lake Villa School District. She obtained a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa, a M.A. in Educational Leadership from Aurora University and a Learning Behavior Specialist endorsement. Kari believes in focusing much of her efforts on the social emotional learning of the school community and its impact on student achievement.
Kari resides in Lindenhurst with her husband Mike, three children, Abby (13), Mitch (10), Karley (7) and their dog Bella. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, adventuring the outdoors, hiking, boating, paddleboarding, and running.
Kindergarten Registration Night
If you have a child who will turn five years old on or before September 1, 2019, please take note of the following information. Millburn District will be accepting registration for kindergarten on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Millburn Elementary School, 18550 Millburn Road, Wadsworth. ALL registrations will be accepted at Millburn Elementary School. You must call the school to request a registration packet. Millburn Elementary's main office phone number is 847-356-8331. Before the registration date, all the necessary paperwork should be completed and brought with you to begin the registration process. If you are unable to attend the registration date, you may drop off the completed packet prior to April 3. However, you will have to call Millburn Elementary's main office after that date for the next available August screening appointment.
What else should parents bring to registration?
1) Your child's original birth certificate - the one from the county of birth, not the hospital one - we will make a copy, no charge.
2) Registration fees will be collected at this time. Cash or check made payable to "Millburn District" is acceptable.
3) Proof of Residency (The registration packet will contain a form with a list of required documentation).
4) Your calendar - you will be able to make an appointment for the August screening process.

Kindergarten Readiness
Cold and Flu Season
Please be advised that if your child has any of the symptoms listed below he or she should NOT attend school:
1. Fever
2. Rash
3. Sore throat with fever
4. Persistent cough
5. Nausea and vomiting
6. Occasional diarrhea
A child who has recently been ill, should meet the following criteria returning to school, attending athletic events, or after school activities:
1. Feel fit for 24 hours
2. Maintain a temperature below 100° for 24 hours
3. Be free of vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours
4. Be on an antibiotic for at 24 hours when diagnosed with strep throat
5. Be on prescription antibiotic eye drops for 24 hours when diagnosed with conjunctivitis
6. Be home for at least, 5 days after the appearance of a rash or until all contagious blisters have scabbed
Please notify the school if your child has been diagnosed with strep throat, chickenpox, scarlet fever, pink eye, or fifth disease. We have students with low immunity, and contagious illnesses can further compromise their health.
To help keep children healthy, make sure they have plenty of rest and a nutritious diet. Make sure they are dressed properly when outdoors.
The single most important thing you can do to keep your child free of illness is to teach them the proper way to wash hands. Use soap and rub hands together for at least 15 seconds. Rinse hands in running water and dry them thoroughly.
Please help us keep our students healthy by keeping a child who is sick at home. Remember, one sick child can spread their illness to all classmates. Thank you for your cooperation.
Illinois Assessment of Readiness
Illinois is renaming the state assessment to Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). The format and questions will be very similar to its predecessor, PARCC. It will continue to assess skills in Literacy and Math for students in grades 3-8. Students will take the assessment on their iPads within their classrooms. One new feature is less testing. Students will now do 3 math assessments (down from 4) and 2 literacy assessments (down from 3). Yet, the state is requiring our students to participate in a field test for recently developed ELA passages and items. The purpose of the field test is to try out new material and to replenish and expand the item pool for future operational tests. Therefore, students will take 3 ELA assessments.
Students will be testing the week of April 8th. Students who are not in school during testing sessions will need to make- up those assessments on a later date, which would involve students being taken out of the classroom. Therefore, please do your best to arrange appointments outside the testing week. We want to make sure the state assessment makes as little an impact as possible for our students.

Parent Involvement in Millburn District 24
Over a year ago the Millburn PTO and Millburn Education Foundation sent out a survey to gather information on parent involvement at Millburn. Both groups wanted to poll our community to ask what parents were looking for in their Millburn parent organizations. The information collected in that survey led to the idea of forming a committee to look at combining the PTO and Foundation to better suit the needs of the community. A second survey was sent to see who would be interested in serving on the committee to tackle the task of looking at the specifics of this new parent organization.
Since the fall this committee has met monthly to discuss the pros and cons and what would be the best avenue in combining these two groups. The decision was made to maintain the 501(c)3 status to provide more fundraising opportunities to support the new organization’s mission. Once that decision was made, the committee reviewed both the PTO's and Foundation's bylaws to create the bylaws for this new parent organization, while following the legal requirements of the 501(c)3 status. The district’s attorney is currently reviewing those bylaws.
The committee plans to communicate the new parent organization’s name and mission in the near future to ensure a successful launch for next school year. Be on the lookout for more information on how you can be involved in the future of this ONE Millburn parent group.
