My brother Joe Minden

Maddie Speanburg

Why do you look up to him?

I look up to my brother because he has gone through so many things and has had a lot of opticals to push threw and he never gives up.

He has overcome so many things in life that makes him the person he is today, with having cancer and his dad passing from cancer also, to breaking his knee cap and tearing a tendon, to breaking his face and arm and having to have countless surgeries.

He is my hero because he never gave up during those events and he still pushed him self to the fullest and followed his dream to play football, even when doctors said he could never play ball ever again.

Do you go to him for advice?

Yes all the time, he is my go to person and gives me an honest answer for everything!

Dose he lead you in the right direction and Is he always there for you?

Yes, he always leads me down the right path and helps me when I make mistakes.

Yes, he knows how to cheer me up and knows how to make me smile. He always knows what to say in every situation.

“And then a hero comes along, with the strength to carry on, and you cast your fears aside and you know you can survive, so when you feel like hope is gone, look inside you and be strong, and you'll finally see the truth, that a hero lies in you.” – Mariah Carey

My thoughts on the intention of the lyrics:

I think the lyrics are meant to be an inspiration for those who are going through a difficult time or struggle in life. I think they are positive words of encouragement and a reminder that we all have the capability of withstanding hardship if we just trust in ourselves and remind ourselves that we can be strong and we can be strong for others who need support

Why did the song writer describe the "hero" in the way the they did?

I think she described it that way in order to have a surprise affect, sometimes when we hit rock bottom or feel such despair, something snaps inside and we suddenly get a 2nd wind and feeling of strength to keep going and get through something. And the hero strength is something we all have within us all the time.

What is the message of the song?

I think the message is to remind ourselves to be courageous, trust and stay positive even in the toughest situations.

What is the connection to Beowulf?

The connection to this song and to beowulf would be how courageous beowulf was and how he stayed positive even in the toughest situations like when fighting griddle, griddles mom, and the dragon. And the town looked to Beowulf as their hero. They even built a tower by the lake once he died because he asked them too and they did it of corse because they looked up to him.

Make the connection to your hero from the song

Joseph has been faced with many trying and difficult hardships, setbacks and tough situations, from beating cancer to broken bones that kept him away from competing in his dream, football. Although he had set back after set back, instead of giving up, he dug deep, gathered his courageous and fought back to be better and stronger. He did this with a smile and a can do attitude and inspired others along the way to have this same courageous attitude and behavior. He is truly a leader and a hero for all to stay strong.

THEME 1- Epic

This is an epic in beowulf because of the adventures he's gone on/ battles and the wording/ language on the time period.

Lord of the rings- because of the time period and the battles and the language

THEME 2- Deadly Battle

In Beowulf there are many deadly battles, like the one between beowulf and grindle and beowulf and grindles mom and all the time grindle ate the people in the town while they were sleeping.

The movie connection I picked was in the movie twilight, the volturis is trying to find the cullins and kill bells baby and they end up in this big field and all the werewolf come and they end up killing basically everybody/ hurting them just to get to Bella and Edwards baby

THEME 3- Bravery

In the book Beowulf there was bravery shown many times. For instance when beowulf went down in the pond for hours just to go find grinddles mom to kill her, while a lot of the towns people sat around the pond and waited for him because nobody ever was brave enough to go down there.

A movie that a character has shown bravery is the movie/ fairytale Rapunzel. Rapunzel had absolutely no idea what the world outside her tower had in store for her. She even had a “mom” who tried to scare her into never finding out. But despite the odds stacked against her, she was brave enough to take that first step to achieve her dream of watching the lanterns, and finally let her life begin.
