Principal's Weekly Update

Volume 2 Issue 16 : November 8, 2020

Message from Mrs. Aulmer

I hope everyone is continuing to stay safe and healthy. Please remember that this week is a "short" week for our students. We will not have school Wednesday due to Veteran's Day. Also, progress report will be on Friday. Please login to Schoology to view your scholar's grades for each class. If a "1" is listed as an assignment grade that is because the assignment has not been turned in. If a "0" is listed as the grade that means the assignment has not been turned in and the teacher is no longer accepting the assignment. Please login to Schoology and monitor your scholar's grades to ensure they are turning all assignments in on time. If you have any questions about grades or assignments, please reach out to the teacher and include your grade level Dean on the communication (K-2 Ms. Beatty, 3-5 Ms. Griffith).

Our School Board will meet this Thursday night at 6:30 pm. There will be a ZOOM link posted on our website for you to join. Next Monday night at 6 pm we will host our next Parent Academy night. Please see the flyer below for access information.

World Kindness Day is this coming Friday and we are doing a spirit day at school. Please see the flyer below for "dress" options for Friday. We are looking forward to seeing our students dressed up.

Also, the week of November 16th - 20th we are doing a canned food drive at school. Please drop your non-perishable items off at the main office between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm. At the end of the week we will make a delivery to a local food shelter to help our local families in need.

Our third through fifth grade teachers have requested longer class times for ELA and math. Please see the schedule changes below. This information should have already been shared with families from their grade level teachers.

If your contact information has changed, please reach out to our main office to update the information. This could be your address, phone numbers, or emails. Without this information it is hard for us to stay in contact with you. You can call 980-299-6633 or you can email Ms. Seeley

I would like to request your help with ZOOM session etiquette. We know that attending school from home is not the easiest, however, we are asking that students have a quiet place set up in the house to attend their sessions. While in the sessions we are asking that students are dressed appropriately and are attentive to the teacher. We appreciate your help with this.

I ask that you follow the FAQ section below when you need to reach out to someone. Please make sure you are contacting the correct support person. This will help your questions and concerns get addressed quickly.

Thank you for your continued partnership with QCSS as we work to make this a successful year for all of our scholars!

Survey for Parents

The purpose of this survey is to find out your opinions about Queen City STEM School. We will use these results to help guide any changes needed moving forward. Please complete this survey by Friday, November 13, 2020 at 4 pm. Read each statement and choose the response that most closely matches your opinion. Please answer each item honestly. Your responses will be completely confidential.

Kindness-Character Trait of the Month

To celebrate our character trait for the month of November, Kindness, we would like to ask the students to participate in an act of kindness each week:

November 9th- 13th: Write a letter to a friend or family member and mail it.

November 16th-20th: Canned food drive at school. Go through your pantry and collect some canned food/non-perishable items to drop off at school. We will collect the items (Monday-Friday from 8:30 am until 3:30 pm) and take them to a local shelter to donate from all students at QCSS.

Rooted in Reading Wish List

Rooted in Reading is a reading program that supplements the curriculum we already have in place. Rooted in Reading focuses on one read aloud each week so that students can deepen their understanding, focus on the structure of the story, and use the different reading strategies and skills that we match with the story. Rooted in Reading is based on a READ ALOUD where the teacher is reading to the students. The teacher models fluency, expression, thinking out loud, and understanding a text. This ensures that the students take all of those best practices and put them into place when they are reading independently. There are multiple stories that go with this series and our teachers have created a wish list for any parents who would like to donate a book to their scholar's classroom teacher. Please help out if you can.
