Our Challenge: Engagement in a Remote World
As we move into a fully remote learning environment in the Grand Forks Public Schools (November 30 - December 22), our goal is to keep all students learning and progressing. We know that this will be a challenge for some of our students. Remote learning brings with it the concern for a loss of connection to school, which can result in learning gaps and poor grades. All of this comes as we near the end of the semester. The good news is we can make this time productive and full of learning (some of it pretty real-world) if we work together.
Our teachers are collaborating around strategies to get/keep students engaged remotely. We ask that parents support our efforts to keep students attending live virtual classes, completing work as assigned, and communicating with teachers when they need help. Check-in with your students about their learning and the habits they are employing around their schedule and assignments. The work should remain in the hands of students, but we can provide support and guidance along the way.
This edition of The Knight News features a good deal of information and tips related to remote learning. Please see the Remote Learning Expectations and Guidelines section below. (A video of this was shared with students and parents last week).
If you have questions, please reach out to teachers, counselors, and principals.
Lastly, have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving. Despite the challenges, there is a lot for us to be thankful for and the practice of acknowledging this is a good one for us all!
Sincerely,
Mr. Jon Strandell
Principal
