Puketapu School Newsletter
Week 8, Term 2 2021 - 23 June 2021
Empower All People to be Healthy, Lifelong Learners
Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart
from our principal
Kia ora koutou,
In preparation for the ground breaking marking the start of construction of the four new learning spaces at Puketapu School, a karakia was said by Matua Glen Skipper.
Matua Glen is a parent, a respected representative from Tahwirikura hapu and has close ties with the Puketapu hapu. Matua Glen was one of the key creative minds and carvers involved with the cultural design of the new airport.
The purpose of the blessing was to acknowledge the whenua and the start of the project.
Emma Hoskin, one of our Year 7 students, used a shovel to break the ground after the karakia to signal the project is ready to begin. It was significant for us to have a student dig the first hole as the spaces are designed for our students of the present and the future.
Learning & Wellbeing Conferences
These are NEXT WEEK!
Thursday 1 July (after school) or Friday 2 July (8.00-4.00pm)
All bookings are made online through School Interviews. Our event code is p6t2j
Simply enter your details and your child's name, then choose your child's teacher and the time that suits you. If you need to change your time, you can log back in to change it.
If you are not able to book, please contact the office or speak with your child's teacher.
More Hoodies... and T Shirts!
Exactly as last time, you can order child or adult sizes in a range of colours, with a personalised name on the back.
This time, you can also order Tshirts.
You will also be able to get your items delivered or collect from the school (the auto reply will say collect from Game Changer, but they will deliver them to us to save you a trip.)
Get your order in before the end of term and it will be ready early in Term 3.
Once you receive this, you can go online and view your child's photos. You will have approximately three weeks to take advantage of the "free delivery" offer, but you can still order photos after that time.
The Wool Shed
In Design Technology Tarli, Amy-Jaide and Honor are designing a natural skincare range.
Today they have started testing their lip balm. We have ordered a lip balm kit to do this from Pure Nature. They are testing the flavour of the vanilla essential oil.
They are also looking at making a body scrub and bath bomb.

We are on the look out for...
Kia ora Puketapu Whanau,
The Design Tech Hub is on the lookout for some plywood. For the last few weeks we have been lucky enough to have Ian come and work with some year 7 classes to make balance boards.......but now the word is out, and the rest of the year 7 and 8 students want to make boards too.
Do you have any plywood that you could donate to us? It would need to be 16 - 18mm thick.
If you do, please pop it over to the Design Tech Hub and we will store it until our next opportunity to work with Ian.
