Puketapu School Newsletter
Week 8, Term 2 2021 - 23 June 2021
Empower All People to be Healthy, Lifelong Learners
Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart
from our principal
Kia ora koutou,
In preparation for the ground breaking marking the start of construction of the four new learning spaces at Puketapu School, a karakia was said by Matua Glen Skipper.
Matua Glen is a parent, a respected representative from Tahwirikura hapu and has close ties with the Puketapu hapu. Matua Glen was one of the key creative minds and carvers involved with the cultural design of the new airport.
The purpose of the blessing was to acknowledge the whenua and the start of the project.
Emma Hoskin, one of our Year 7 students, used a shovel to break the ground after the karakia to signal the project is ready to begin. It was significant for us to have a student dig the first hole as the spaces are designed for our students of the present and the future.

We are on the look out for...
Kia ora Puketapu Whanau,
The Design Tech Hub is on the lookout for some plywood. For the last few weeks we have been lucky enough to have Ian come and work with some year 7 classes to make balance boards.......but now the word is out, and the rest of the year 7 and 8 students want to make boards too.
Do you have any plywood that you could donate to us? It would need to be 16 - 18mm thick.
If you do, please pop it over to the Design Tech Hub and we will store it until our next opportunity to work with Ian.
