What's Happening week of February 4, 2019

It seemed strange not celebrating Catholic Schools Week this past week. We still had a busy week even with the Polar Vortex passing through. Many were able to enjoy our annual Pasta Supper and we held our Geography Bee on Wednesday. Stay tuned for the Spelling Bee on February 13th.

THANK YOU

Thank you for EVERYONE that came out to support our Superbowl Pasta Supper!

We had a crowd of over 450 at the Knights of Columbus this week. Even the Knights were surprised when we packed the place- every table and chair was occupied! It was a full house of St. Anna School supporters who couldn't wait to eat the delicious pasta dinner, take a chance on the super cool raffle baskets or purchase a superbowl square!

Fun was had by all whether they went home with a basket full of goodies or just a happy belly!

I can't thank the Pasta Supper committee enough for their hard work in planning this event and the all day set up and cooking. Our volunteers are the heart of our school and we thank you for your selfless service for our students. It truly is All for the Kids!

Early Release February 6

We have another Early Release on Wednesday, February 6th dismissing at 11:30.
Extended Care is open until 5:30 and there are busses

FACTS Grant & Application Information

Please reach out if you have any questions. I encourage you all to apply even if you're unsure if you will qualify. There are funds available each year and the list that is generated by the applications (even if you do not qualify) is used by the state to allocate our Title Funds which support our school.

Applications for the 2019-2020 School Year can be found on the school's website:

http://www.stannaschool.org/admissions.html

Returning students need to fill out a new form. We need a new form completed for each school year.

Outdoor Recess

Please note that we go outside EVERY day as long as the temperature is 30 degrees or above and it is not raining. It's been a cold winter already and it's kept us indoors too many days. Some students were surprised to go outside today and not all were prepared. Students should come to school EVERY day anticipating going outside. They should have a winter coat and preferably hat & mittens. We send students outside with what they wore to school that day. Many still go out with just a sweatshirt and not hats or mittens/gloves. If you'd like your child to bundle up for their 30-45 minutes outside each day, please have them bring those clothes to school.
It's also a good time to remind you that ALL students should also have an extra pair of gym sneakers AT school. Indoor recess is in the gym and only students with a pair of gym sneakers are allowed to use the gym. No school/outside shoes are allowed on the gym floor.

OUTDOOR SNOW FUN!!!

We want our students to get as much outdoor playtime as they can this winter. The fresh air and sunshine benefits everyone in the winter. Students in grades PK-3 are encouraged to bring their snow gear to school. Students who have boots, snow pants, and gloves will be allowed to play IN the snow at the lunch recess. This will also allow us to go outside when the weather is a little chillier if the students are dressed warm. Students are also able to leave a pair of boots and snow pants at school for the week if that’s easier than bringing them back and forth.

Older students will also be able to play IN the snow if they bring their boots, snow pants and gloves as well. For students who do not have the appropriate snow gear, they can continue to play on the pavement at recess. We do encourage a pair of boots or other shoes to change into outdoors. We also need to remind students they need a pair of gym shoes AT school. This is important for gym days as well as indoor recess days. We need to keep the sand, salt and snow off the gym floor. Students who do not have a change of footwear will not be able to participate in gym or indoor recess.

Nurse Notes:

It is that time of the year when germs are everywhere. This is a reminder that if a child has a fever, vomiting, diarrhea or a contagious infection, they need to remain home until they are free of those symptoms for 24 hours or on the appropriate medication.

We expect that students will attend school when they are fighting a cold. We will work with those students on using tissues, hand washing, sneezing or coughing into their elbow (Dabbing!) to help keep the germs at bay.

Our classrooms and hard services are cleaned appropriately to eliminate as many germs as possible while still keeping the good bacteria.

When in doubt, please just ask! We are here to help.
