Millbrook Elementary Staff Notes

Week of Feb. 1-5, 2016

Thought For the Week

The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

Celebrations of Success!

In an effort to better connect the work of the MIST (Millbrook Instructional Support Team) with school-wide distributed leadership, I wanted to share some of the CELEBRATIONS of work we've observed in the last week:
*PLT Success: Team stuck to norms, came prepared and were focused on their work
*Strong PLT facilitation was happening

*All members of the team shared and all voices were heard

*Team bond strengthening; candid conversations; clear trust to take risks; taking ownership of their own learning; embracing trying new things
*The Arts in Action celebration; building of community - culture builder
* Evidence of teachers taking feedback from coaches, observation and really using it/growing their practice

*Grade level planning to think about what will excite and engage students as a provocation to being a unit of inquiry

*A 5th grade student stopped at the Caring Corner and asked about putting more notes in to spread caring

Learning Corner

As we work this semester on developing our school improvement plan for 2016-19, it's a great time to reflect on our current practices and challenge assumptions about what we do and how we do it. If we are working to develop students who are communicators, critical thinkers, collaborators, and creators, what must change in our school? One issue we constantly wrestle with is use of time. This blog has some ideas to think about regarding how we "fit it all in" purposefully to support student learning:
