Havelock North Primary School 16th March 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
A reminder that Friday, 19th March is a holiday for students. All local state schools have a Teacher Only day to work on curriculum development.
Yesterday saw the first of our Year 6 camps get underway with Room 24 & 25 heading to Pohangina Valley in the Manawatu. Room 26 & 27 will drive down on Wednesday for what we hope will be a fantastic outdoor experience full of challenges and lots of fun.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 17th March, we have our first Whanau Hui of the year which will be held in Room 12 from 5:30 - 6:30 pm. As part of this meeting, we will share our strategic planning for the year with regards to Marae visits, Matariki, future Hui, carvings to represent our school values and anything else you would like to discuss. This evening is for all families, not just Maori families. There will be a free sausage sizzle and children are welcome. To assist us with numbers for kai, please let your child's classroom teacher know if you will be attending. Thank you!
Some students are coming to school with watch phones. While this is fine, I understand there is the capacity to disable these during school hours. If you need to contact your child during the school day please do so by phoning or emailing the school office. Thank you.
Thursday is "Odd Sock" day to support Down Syndrome. This will be a fun way of recognising this very special cause.
The playground has been full of activity lately with students utilising the tennis courts and new four squares. We have also added an outdoor chessboard and are awaiting some large outdoor chess pieces so we can put this into action.
We are working hard on reinforcing good old fashioned values with our students. Thank you for the part you play in this, as largely our students are well versed in their good manners.
A big thank you to Steve Short and the Short Construction team who donated their time and materials to fix our PE Shed which was damaged by vandals over the Xmas break. Much appreciated gentlemen!
Have a great week everyone.
Regards
Nick Reed
Principal

How do we identify it?
What are the challenges faced by dyslexic readers?
How can we help?
What resources are available locally (professional help, reading material at Wardini Books and Napier and Hastings libraries).
