Dinner Table Prayer and Chat: The Tradition of Prayer
Contemplate
It is possible to offer fervent prayer even while walking in public or strolling alone, or seated in your shop....while buying or selling...or even while cooking.
St. John Chrysostom (CCC 2743)
Opening Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, please visit our family, blessed with one another and with food to eat. Please take care of those who are lacking in food and do not have a family.
Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ,Our Lord. Amen.
Family Sharing
The church teachers us that 'prayer is a vital necessity (CCC 2744) and that 'prayer and the Christian life are inseparable" (CCC 2745). Prayer is an important part of our lives. It is our conversation with God. Prayer should be sincere, and we should pray as often as we can and where ever we are.
Parents can help instill the habit of prayer in their children by encouraging them to pray and by praying with them. Children who grow up with the traditional of prayer will be happier and will be aided throughout life by its firm foundation in their hearts
Family Reflection Questions.
Ask the children to share their thoughts
How does prayer help you? Why should you pray?
Do you think your prayers can help others?
Does your prayer make God happy?
What can you do each day to remember to pray more?
Closing Prayer
St John Chrysostom, please pray for us.
Our Father.....
