Tax season is right around the corner. Take advantage of tax credits for your 2021 tax
bill that benefit you, as well as Sonoran Foothills School. The Arizona tax credit program
(A.R.S. 43-1089.01) allows you to make tax credit donations up to $200 for individuals
and up to $400 for married couples filing jointly to support extracurricular activities, athletics, clubs, field trips, and more!
Donations made between January 1st and April 15th may be applied to either the current or prior tax year.
When donating online go to https://dvusd.mytechsupport.com/eca/ OR visit dvusd.org/sonoranfoothills , select the "online payments/tax donation" button, then enter your student's info. Donations directed to the general donation account allow us to continue supporting the extracurricular events that our students love!
Contributions must be received by April 15, 2022.
What are the amazing SF teachers up to on PLC/PD Days during Quarter 3?
During Quarter 3, our hard working SF teachers will continue to collaborate with their Professional Learning Communities (PLC) to review data, modify & adjust lesson plans, and discuss ways to differentiate and support the wide variety of student needs.
In addition, during our Professional Development (PD) time we are focused on building our knowledge and skillset for Standards Based Grading. It is quite the learning process, but we know the positive impacts this will have on student learning is invaluable. Next year (22-23), Sonoran Foothills will follow the Standards Based Grading model.
We encourage you to start learning right along with us! Parents can visit https://www.dvusd.org/Page/77677 to learn more about why we're moving in this direction and how grades will be a more accurate reflection of student knowledge.
Again, as a staff, we are just in the early phases of building our background knowledge and WE ARE SO THANKFUL for our Friday PLC/PD time that allows us to focus on growing as educators. We look forward to communicating with you in the upcoming months so that we are all prepared for the transition next school year.
State Testing for Sonoran Foothills Bobcats
Arizona State Testing is quickly approaching and we can't wait for our amazing students to show how much they've grown this year! It is so important that our students are at school during their testing sessions (as long as they are healthy and able). Please mark your calendars now and do your best to refrain from scheduling appointments that would require students to be absent, leave early, or arrive late between April 6th-14th.
*We will provide more details as we get closer to April, but we know those dentist and doctors appointments get booked months in advance and wanted to get you these dates ASAP.
We appreciate your partnership with attendance during our assigned testing session! #bobcatstrong

All Things EQ Message (from the founder Danna Evans):
We focus on confusion because when students feel confused,
they often become frustrated and stop trying.
The motto for the week is: I work through confusion.
Students may equate confusion with ability, believing they are confused because they are not smart enough. Feeling confused is frustrating for sure, but confusion can be a natural part of learning.
We want students to equate confusion with problem-solving, learning, and growth rather than feelings of inadequacy. Confusion may be a speed bump on the road to knowledge, but it is not a reason to stop. Working together, we can help our students persevere through confusion, rather than allow confusion to be a reason to give up.
Check-in with your child and ask how they feel when they are confused. If there are any unhelpful thoughts, you can help them replace them with more encouraging ones.
Old Thought Patterns If I am confused, it means: • I am not smart enough. • My teacher doesn't explain things well. • I give up because I am confused.
New Thought Patterns If I am confused, it means: • I am learning something new. • My teacher challenges me. • I keep trying because confusion is a normal part of learning.
Understanding that confusion is normal can help lower feelings of anxiety and frustration
and instead encourage perseverance and resiliency.
"Genius is perseverance in disguise." -Mike Newlin
