    A Letter from Your Principal

    Mustang Community,

Homecoming is next week. It’s a fun time for our students and staff with spirit days Monday through Friday. More event information is in this newsletter. Let's give The Mustang Club a huge thank you for the cash prizes they will be awarding to the best BVN Organization Floats: 1st Place $500, 2nd Place $300, and 3rd Place $200. We hope your family can join us for the Parade on Wednesday, and the football game on Friday night.

Our teachers are looking forward to Parent Teacher Conferences on September 26-29. Information about conferences signups is in this newsletter. If you are unavailable to attend conferences, feel free to email your student's teachers if you have any questions. Teacher emails are found on the BVN website in the About Us menu, then select Contact Us, then Staff Directory. Mark your calendar for Friday, Sept. 30. There is no school due to evening conferences.

Please be sure to check you have completed paying your student’s course fees. Remember, course fees are assigned based on your student’s enrollment. Take a moment to log in to ParentVUE to see if any course fees were assigned. More detailed information is below.

    Field Biology Class

Let's give a shout out to Mr. Ollig's field bio students for the research they documented on September 14th. They have been working hard training for our BVN Prairie bumblebee survey and it paid off. They collected lots of great data and got to see all sorts of great critters. In conclusion: OUR BVN PRAIRIE HAS BUMBLEBEES and that's a good thing! All bumblebees were put on ice and "asleep" before handling and were then released back into the prairie once they woke up.

    Student Announcements

National Honor Society Info for 2022-23 School Year

Are you a student who is in the class of 2023 or class of 2024 and have a 3.5 GPA or higher? Are you interested in being a candidate for National Honor Society induction in the fall? If so, please read on. Students need 40 hours of community service from January 1, 2022 through September 30, 2022. These hours must come from non-profit 501c3 organizations.

We will not count hours such as walking dogs, babysitting a neighbor, helping someone move, tutoring, volunteering at country clubs, etc. Students should already be on x2VOL, the platform that tracks hours, and should be recording and verifying hours on this online site. An individual from the organization must verify hours with an email that is from a .org email address. Look online for opportunities that are posted on the x2VOL website. If you are questioning if hours count as community service, please contact Ms. Cornelius and Mrs. Stein to get prior authorization.

Updated info: The Candidate Information meetings will be on Tuesday, September 20, at 3:00 pm in the PAC and Thursday, September 22, at 8:00 am in the PAC. Attendance at one of these two meetings is mandatory! We will hand out all information to students at this meeting. Other than community service hours, students do not need to work on anything else prior to this meeting.

Mandatory induction practice is Monday, November 7, 2022, at 7:00 a.m. and the mandatory Induction Ceremony is Monday, November 7, 2022, at 6:30 p.m.

Feel free to reach out to Ms. Cornelius (acornelius@bluevalleyk12.org) or Mrs. Stein (sistein@bluevalleyk12.org) with any questions.

    Parent Announcements

World Language Credit Transfer --- 9th grade parents ACTION NEEDED by October 3 (new)

The purpose of this email is to inform you of the option that your high school students have to transfer 2 middle school world language credits to the high school transcript. According to board policy 4340, only students who completed the entire world language sequence (6th-8th grades) in a Blue Valley middle school are eligible.

If you would like to transfer 2 middle school world language credits to your child’s high school transcript, please fill out this credit transfer form. This form will be open until October 3, 2022, and credit will not be applied to the HS transcript until after this time frame. Please allow at least two weeks for processing after the close of the form.

There are some important considerations for you to consider in making this decision:

    • Students will be able to transcript only the full 2 credits offered. They may not transfer only a single credit.

    • The middle school world language grades are factored into the student’s high school GPA.

    • Once the family decides to transcript these grades, they cannot be changed or removed.

    • The HS transcript will indicate that the credit was earned in middle school.

    • There is no foreign language requirement for high school graduation, although many colleges require at least 2 years. Please confirm with colleges directly on their entrance requirements and if they would accept transferred middle school language credits.

In order to confirm which grades will transfer, please access the quarterly grade reports in ParentVue by clicking on “Documents.” World language courses are transcripted by semester. Quarter 2 and quarter 4 represent the end-of-semester grades; therefore, the grade reports relevant to the world language credits are:

    • 7th grade, quarter 2 = Language level 1b, semester 1 = ½ credit

    • 7th grade, quarter 4 = Language level 1b, semester 2 = ½ credit

    • 8th grade, quarter 2 = Language level 2, semester 1 = ½ credit

    • 8th grade, quarter 4 = Language level 2, semester 2 = ½ credit

Please note that any pluses and minuses do not transfer.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your building registrar or counselor. You may also reach out to Rachel Benson, World Language Coordinator (rlbenson@bluevalleyk12.org).

If students were absent on Picture Day or if they have any trouble loading the ID, they can come to Student Services for help.

If your student’s picture was taken and you placed a pre-order for photos, the picture package was delivered to your student in their Advisory class on Thursday, September 8. Please Join The Mustang Club during 2022-23!

Our parent community has been integral in contributing to our status as one of the best high schools in the state of Kansas and a leading high school across the nation.

Please support The Mustang Club (previously known as BVN Parent Booster Club). The Mustang Club financially supports BVN's extracurricular activities (as our version of a traditional PTO/PTA), and over the last 7 years, The Mustang Club has granted over a half million dollars to support our school’s extracurricular activities, organizations, and athletic teams. We could not provide the depth and breadth of opportunities that are available without your participation through membership and donations of your time.

The Mustang Club needs your support! Membership is down and volunteers are in short supply. Here are some options for you to consider:

    · Become a Mustang Club member at one of the five membership levels;

    · Purchase spirit wear from The Mustang Club website (www.bvnmustangs.com);

    · Volunteer on a Mustang Club committee to support a specific event or cause; and

    · Take advantage of one of the many sponsorship opportunities available for those of you affiliated with companies that want to support BVN financially.

You can find everything you need to know about The Mustang Club & membership at www.bvnmustangs.com. As you know, this organization is completely run by parent volunteers so every dollar donated goes to benefit BVN students. Additionally, the organization is a 501(c)3 so your contributions are tax deductible.
