Hawks Happenings

February 2023

February is here!

Wow! We are already in the second month of the year 2023! I wonder if Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow tomorrow or if we will move on to Spring! Whatever happens, I know we will be working hard here at NBES to help your child grow and learn!

Thanks for continuing to partner with us to help your child be successful!

Safety Reminders - Morning Car Riders

For your convenience, our school allows students to be dropped off at 7:15 AM and supervised in the theater until released to go to classrooms at 7:35 AM. Please be reminded that students should not be dropped off prior to 7:15 AM.

Students who are dropped off prior to 7:15 AM are NOT properly supervised and the school is not responsible for your child's well-being.

We now have a bell set to ring at 7:15 AM to signal cars when it is permissible to drop off your child. Students should stay inside their car until you hear the bell ring.

Safety Reminders - Car Rider Line

Our car rider line is problematic and everyone knows that we need a new entrance to our school. As frustrating as this is, we must work together to ensure the safety of everyone! If we all follow the two items listed below, things would go a lot smoother:

  1. Do NOT line up prior to 2:20 to pick up your child. (Share this with grandparents as well).
  2. Do NOT pass the cars in the car rider line!

Our county leaders are aware of our car rider line concerns and are working to develop solutions but we do not have a timeline for change at this time.

Thank you for your patience. A HUGE thank you to the parents who follow these guidelines and work diligently to keep our entire NBES family safe.

BCS Superintendent, Dr. Rob Jackson, invites you to the NB Community Night!

Mark your calendars for this event!

  • Town Hall Meeting - Dr. Rob Jackson, our new Superintendent, will host a community engagement meeting for our district at North Buncombe Middle School school on Tuesday, February 7th, at 6pm. If you are interested in attending, please let me know. My goal is to have at least 10 parents/guardians from NBES attend this event.

Reminder of COVID Protocols

  • If a student tests positive for COVID (at home or at a healthcare provider), they would isolate for 5 days from when their symptoms began. We will recognize the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS regarding the use of a face covering to be worn for days 6-10 upon return to school.

  • Our normal exclusionary symptoms of fever, diarrhea, and vomiting are in effect. If a student has a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, they must remain at home until symptoms are resolved for 24 hours.

  • Hand hygiene, enhanced cleaning protocols, and improved ventilation are all still priorities and important mitigating strategies.

  • Face coverings remain optional, to be worn by anyone at anytime.

  • Physical distancing such as 3 ft or 6 ft apart is no longer required.

  • Contact tracing is not required.

  • Following the guidelines established by the CDC and NCDHHS, MAHEC will not be providing rapid antigen testing in our schools. Staff and families may order at home tests for free via this link: https://www.covid.gov/tests.

  • MAHEC will send home further guidance regarding when students need to stay home due to an illness.

  • For students where an absence is Covid related please indicate this in your parent or health provider's note.

  • Students/teachers will follow the same guidelines for makeup work as they would for any other illness or injury.
