Rattler News
Newsletter for the Week of September 19th, 2022
Message rom Mrs. Chavira, Campus Principal
Rattler Community,
We are two weeks away from our end to our first marking period and only a few days away from the first day of Fall. We are very proud of all of the accomplishments we have had this far. It has been heartwarming to be able to bring many of our traditions back. This past Monday we were able to spend time with our Grandparents and dedicate our time just to them. We were able thank them for all their support, especially during 2020 when many of them stepped up to be at home educators. A special thank you to all of our Rattler grandparents.
On Saturday TeamSISD went out into our community to find many of our High School Students that have not returned to school. A special Thank You to Assistant Principal Mr. Estrada and Nurse Jessica Ojeda for joining us on this Saturday Morning.
This week we continue with Rattler Round-up from 3:30-4:30 on Tuesday and Thursdays. We will also be having a Saturday Camp on Saturday, Sept. 24th. This provides teachers an extra opportunity to work with students on material covered during the first 9 weeks and continue to close the learning gaps. We hope all students that are invited are able to attend. Saturday Camp will be from 8:30am to 11:30am.
Please continue reading our newsletter for important updates and events happening this week. Things you will find below include
- Announcement of our new STUCO and NEHS members
- Recognition of students that leveled up in Lexia this week (Through Sat. 9/17)
- Technology Family Night
- and much more.
Thank you again for your continued support of Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary and #TEAMSISD.
Respectfully,
Cristina Sanchez-Chavira

Texas School Safety Center: SRP Lockdown Drill
As mandated by the Texas School Safety Center, all public schools in the state of Texas are required to hold a lockdown drill to practice the procedures and ensure all persons within our campus understand the protocols. The window for this drill has opened and we will be holding our first drill next week. The drill takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.
Once our drill has concluded, we will send a notification to all primary parents that students have resumed their normal schedule.

What do I do if my child is ill?
SISD Schools are required to follow current isolation protocols which applies to individuals who have symptoms and/or test positive/negative for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status. They should isolate for a minimum of 5 days and may end isolation if:
Individuals that test NEGATIVE for COVID-19 and may have another illness unrelated to COVID may return to school if.
- After 24 hours WITHOUT fever and or the use of fever reducing medication.
- Show improvement of symptoms.
- And this concern is not related to COVID-19
Individuals that test POSITIVE for COVID-19 and are symptomatic may return to school if.
- After a minimum of a 5-day isolation and meets the following criteria.
(a) After 24 hours WITHOUT fever and or the use of fever reducing medication.
(b) Show improvement of symptoms.
Students may return to campus if the above applies. It is strongly recommended for the student or staff member to wear a mask for an additional 5-days after their release from isolation from COVID-19 Disease
Individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 but do not have symptoms
- Should isolate for a minimum of 5 days from the date of the first positive COVID-19 test. It is highly recommended that individuals wear a mask for an additional 5-days when returning from isolation.

Attendance Reminders
We know our students will become ill throughout the year. For this reason it is important that when our students are healthy, they are attending school everyday. Lost instructional days do not only impact your child's education but also the education and dynamics of all students in the classroom. For this reason, MAKING EVERYDAY Count is critical for the success of your child and all students on campus.
The state of Texas holds administrators and parents accountable for attending school daily. At 5 absences or tardies, you will be asked to have a meeting with administration to make sure we are working together to educate your child. Please help support our teachers by brining in your children ready to learn. We thank you for making attendance a priority.
It is vital to submit a NOTE, from the doctor or a personal note, for EVERY absence to explain why the child missed school.
You can email all Personal and Doctors Notes to: attendancesueshook@sisd.net
