Breaking News!
From Dr. Rodriguez:
As of May 10, 2021, the CDC has authorized the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 12+ with parental consent. All adults and children ages 12+ with parental consent are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. The Santa Cruz County Office of Education has partnered with the Dominican Hospital, Dignity Health, and Salud Para La Gente to provide vaccination clinics to students ages 12+. Students ages 12 to 15 will need to be accompanied by an adult when they go to the vaccine clinic.
Our first vaccine clinic for 12-15 year old students will be on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 12:00 noon to 5:00pm at Cesar Chavez Middle School. To register your child for a vaccination appointment:
1. Complete the consent form: sccoe.link/studentvax -- wait for booking link email.
2. Book your appointment: sccoe.link/bookvaccine - if you completed consent already for your student.
Dear Families,
I hope you're all enjoying this drizzly May weekend! (Please come back, sunshine!) We have three weeks of school left and lots of things are still happening! Open House is this week, Talent Show is next week, and 6th Grade In-Person Promotion is on the last day of school (live streaming for the school community). Also, there will be summer educational offerings for all students beginning on June 14. Make sure to check out the Summer School section below for opportunities to keep your students engaged in learning!
Here are some details about upcoming events:
School Site Council and MVP Club meetings are both this Tuesday evening. See times and links below. Remember both meetings are always open to all! If you're thinking about joining either of these teams next year, this is a great chance to get an idea of how they function. Hope to see you there.
Virtual Open House is this Thursday, May 20. The first half hour (6:00-6:30) will be dedicated to TK-3rd grade and 4th-6th will be during the second half hour (6:30-7:00). Teachers will share the link to their virtual events, so look for that communication.
The Talent Show is set for May 28 and will be an asynchronous virtual event. Link coming soon!
Kinder registration is still open, so if you know of neighborhood families or younger siblings who turn 5 on or before September 1, please have them register asap!
6th Grade Promotion will be held in person for immediate family or guests of promoting students. Live streaming will be available for our other students and extended family and friends. This link will be sent out soon.
Summer School Session 1 Family Engagement Activities are available to all. Summer School Session 2 at Mar Vista is by invitation. Please check your emails for upcoming information. See links below for Summer School flyers.
Thank you,
Stephanie Monroe, Principal
Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update
Hi, Families.
Thanks for your help with doing the health symptoms pre-screening before bringing your children to school for in-person learning. This form can be found on the Mar Vista website. This makes the arrival process much quicker for everyone!
Just a reminder that the annual state assessment, referred to as the SBAC, will not need to be administered this year. This will allow teachers more time to focus on teaching the standards. We will continue using our MAP assessment data to monitor progress and to support student needs. This is the third administration of this assessment for the year will be wrapping up this week. Please be aware that there may be more asynchronous work for the students during this time when they are not in the group testing. Parent reports will be sent home after all of the data has populated.
Thank you to everyone that has sent in pictures for the spirit days! This is one way we are trying to maintain connection and community, so it is appreciated. This week is "dapper day"! Take a picture of you in your fanciest outfit and send in a picture to be featured on the Mar Vista News.
Most students will be continuing Unit 8 in our language arts curriculum, Benchmark, this week.
Danny

Read what teachers are saying...
They purchased Zearn for us and I have to say it has been a HUGE support for my math program. I also appreciate the $400 classroom funds because I have been purchasing chapter book sets for my class. I also really appreciate Ashley continuing on being treasurer with her full time job. -Miss Risa
