Science+Literacy= Better Together
For K-5 Teachers, Instructional Coaches, & Administrators
Please Join Us June 5 - 7 for Science Module 4!
The stage will be set as participants don their student-learner hats and are immersed in a three-dimensional storyline that uses literacy strategies to support students figuring out applicable Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI) through Science and Engineering Practices (SEP) in order to understand a Crosscutting Concept (CCC). We will compare content and disciplinary literacy and consider what it means to view like a scientist. Next, we will examine what it means to write, talk, and listen like a scientist and how we can support and cultivate these characteristics in our elementary scientists to meet both the Iowa Core Literacy AND Science Standards.
In-district follow-up will be provided in the fall (to occur between late September and November 30) to support educators in the implementation of science lessons/unit developed during the face-to-face sessions in June.
This course is offered for license renewal credit or graduate credit through Buena Vista University. Click here to view the course syllabus.
Registration closes May 29, 2019.
