Principal Advisory Crew - Respect
The crew is presenting to each grade level in order to teach them whole body listening, explain what they have seen, and tell them about our school goal (zero disrespect). Each teacher has a time of the day to fill out a form in which they mark students who have exhibited any of the above mentioned behaviors. Mrs. Dempsey, Mrs. Bales and I will pull the students marked to discuss their behavior and how to turn it around. We also pull students who did not get marked to praise them for making their class a successful learning environment. If a class has zero marks, they get a sign on their door thanking them for being a respectful classroom. The first time they earn this, they got to spin a wheel for a reward. After the first time they will need to earn five days in a row for their next reward. This has been a challenge for us to get to everyone as the first week we had 118 behaviors that were considered disrespectful. We have reduced that amount, but have noticed some repeat offenders.
The repeat offenders have lost some recess to work through what respect looks like with Mrs. Dempsey. If they miss more than two recesses, they will receive a discipline referral and you will be called. We have not contacted parents about these behaviors to date as many students were not connecting their behavior to being disrespectful so we were spending some time teaching. Now that everyone is aware, we will begin calling parents when there are repeat offenses and discipline referrals are handed out.
Thank you for your support in turning this around and making our school a better learning environment!

Leader in Me Focus for December - Habit 4: Think Win-Win
Thinking win-win is the key to working well with others. It is the most effective way of thinking, especially in a family. Families that learn and practice win-win thinking are happier, experience less conflict, and are better able to meet the family challenges that arise.
Common Language: Cooperate, Mutual, Win-win
Steps:
1. I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want.
2. I make deposits in others' Emotional Bank Accounts
3. When conflicts arise, I look for 3rd alternatives.
4. I cooperate instead of compete.
"Think Win-Win is a frame of mind and heart that seeks mutual benefit and mutual respect. It's not thinking selfishly (win-lose) or like a victim (lose-win). It's thinking in terms of "we, not me."
