No, you're not seeing double....I did just send out Wilbur Words yesterday, but there was an important addition that I wanted to make sure everyone saw.

Dear Colonial Families,

In keeping with our efforts to maintain full communication and transparency with you, we must make you aware of the critical bus driver shortage that could impact our efforts to keep students in school. The bus driver shortage is a state and national problem. Colonial is doing its best to maintain transportation but we need families to understand our dilemma, lend us your grace, and speak to your students about easing the stress drivers are under by being on their best behavior.

  • Presently we are down several drivers who have been taken off the road due to a variety of reasons. Our shortage is so critical, CDL certified office staff and mechanics have been transporting students.

  • Some drivers are making double and triple runs which often results in late pick-ups and drop-offs to schools and bus stops. We have even had to split routes and add the students to other busses.

  • We ask that students take their Chromebooks and materials home each day because we could reach a tipping point where any additional loss of drivers could mean pivoting to online learning temporarily at a moment’s notice.

Thursday's Updates

The district calendar has been changed, and there will now be no school on both November 11 and 12. Make up picture day for those students who were absent or, for those students who need their photo retaken, will now be on Monday, November 15. If you would like your child's pictures retaken, you must send back the original package you purchased on that day so we know to send your child for the retake.

Our next spirit day is coming up on October 29. It is Around the World Day and we encourage students and staff to dress in outfits from around the world or even around the country. This could be as simple as a t-shirt from another state to as exciting as a full costume that shows something about one's heritage. Let's have fun taking this 'trip' around the world!

Although I always back a spirit day to October 31 in one way or the other, we don't have a day where students wear their actual Halloween costumes here at Wilbur. If your child wants to share their costume though, you can post a photo on Twitter at #WilburInspired or share it on our Facebook page!

For BUS PARENTS: If you need to bring your child to school in the morning for some reason, or arrange to pick them up in the afternoon, please review the procedures listed in our Family Handbook (button near bottom of page). We have a car line in the morning and afternoon and, even those that aren't usually picking up need to follow the procedures. We start letting the car line drop off at just a few minutes before our doors officially open at 8:45 a.m. In the afternoon, your child's teacher won't send them to the pick up area unless you have made the change in our PikMyKid app. Past 3:00 p.m., we don't do dismissal changes so, please make sure you make any necessary changes before that time. We are not able to pull students off a bus for any reason once we have started active dismissal so I have had to have numerous parents meet their child at the bus stop instead. With over 1100 students, last minute changes are not possible. Thank you in advance for understanding!!

I've had a ton of parents asking to be able to purchase this year's t-shirt design. At least 48 shirts have to be purchased before the company will print them so think of what great holiday gifts these could be!

See details and order here: https://www.customink.com/fundraising/new-wilbur-shirts-available?utm_campaign=desktop-post-launch-v3&utm_content=new-wilbur-shirts-available&utm_medium=social&utm_source=copy-link.

Shirts will be shipped directly to homes and can be ordered in all sizes. Shirts can be ordered from now through November 4.

Substitute teachers are hard to find these days and I'm looking for some great Wilbur parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, even great grandparents to fill the void! If you sign up with Kelly Services, you are able to choose your own schedule AND say that you will only work at the best school in the universe - Wilbur! If you have never thought about it before, now is a great time to earn a bit of extra money and make a difference at Wilbur!

This year, our school will be continuing to use the PikMyKid program to help organize the school car rider dismissal process and improve safety. This program is a phone application downloaded onto your smart phone (found in the app store) and will allow you to notify the school of pick-up changes, authorize others to pick-up your child from the car line, and alert you when your child has been picked up, as well as help organize the car line during pick-up.

The registration process is easy and we ask that all parents register with the phone application as soon as possible, even if your child is a bus rider. All dismissal changes must be done through the PikMyKid app this year. Dismissal changes stop at 3:00 p.m. so we can prepare for a smooth dismissal. With all procedures being tightened up due to COVID restrictions, there will be no exceptions to this rule. I'm sorry in advance for any inconvenience!

Several resources are included below to help you understand how to use the application and assist you with this transition. Please make sure you register with your personal current mobile phone number or the app will not allow you to access your child’s information for security reasons.

If you do not think the school has your mobile number on file or if your child does not appear in your app’s home page, contact support@pikmykid.com mailto:support@pikmykid.com after registration, with your child’s name, school, grade, and updated contact information for you.

Anyone who will be picking up your child should also register themselves with the application. Their screen will be blank and they will not have any authorization until you allow it within the app.

Also, please keep a look out for the new car tags going home in the coming week. Thank You for your cooperation!
