Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher conferences at Compass Academy will be held on Thursday, 10/7, from 11 am - 7 pm. All Compass Academy parents are encouraged to attend conferences with their student. You may choose to attend conferences in person or virtually. To register for conferences, please follow the instructions in this document: Parent Booking Instructions for Conferences. As you schedule your conferences, you are encouraged to print or email your schedule through the “Printable Schedule” page. This page contains the times and teachers for your conferences. If you sign up for virtual conferences, you will receive access to the links for each of your virtual conferences before 10/7.

We look forward to your participation as we continue to partner with you to support your student’s education.

Extracurricular Clubs & Activities

Compass Academy clubs will begin meeting next week! In response to student interest, the clubs we will initially offer include Culinary Club, Book & Movie Club, Student Activities Club, Chess/Board Games Club, and Yearbook. Based on student feedback, we will also offer quarterly community service events where students and their families can positively impact others in the Fox Valley area.

Because special school events, such as spirit weeks, dances, competitions, and a talent show, were also suggested by student survey responses, a group of students has already started planning for festivities during Halloween week at Compass. Students will get more information about this soon.

Fall PSAT Testing

The Fall PSAT date is October 13th. 9th grade students will be taking College Board's PSAT 8/9. This will be an online exam and students will need their Chromebooks.

10th and 11th grade students will be taking College Board's PSAT/NMSQT exam in the traditional paper and pencil format.

All Compass Academy 9th-11th grade students will take the PSAT at their home high school. The test is on a Wednesday, so students who do not typically attend classes at their home high school will have the option to take district transportation to and from East or North that day.

More information about this will be shared as we get closer to the testing day.

Navigation, Extended Study Option for Students

Since there is not failure at Compass Academy, there is just "not yet" when it comes to demonstrating competency, students who do not demonstrate competency in their 1st quarter courses will be given the opportunity to continue to work with support, as needed, during either Block C (2:30-3:45 pm on all school days but Wed.) or Block D (4:15-6:45 pm, Tues. & Thurs.) in the 2nd quarter in order to earn credit for those courses. Students who do not demonstrate competency for a course within the semester will not receive credit for that course unless they opt to continue to work with support during Navigation in Block C or Block D in 3rd quarter. Our goal is for every student to demonstrate competency in every course, regardless of the time needed to meet that goal.

Financial Aid Night

The D303 Financial Aid Night will be hosted tomorrow, Monday, September 27th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Norris Cultural Arts Center (NCAC) at St. Charles East HS. Mary Crowe from Elgin Community College’s Financial Aid Office will be on hand to provide an overview of the college financial aid process and to answer questions from the audience. This event is open to all students and parents.

The Panorama SEL Survey for Students in Grades 3-12

Community Unit School District 303

201 S. 7th Street, St. Charles, IL 60174-2664 ◦ (331) 228-2000 ◦

August 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 strives to provide all students with the best opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and behaviorally in school. As part of this commitment, District 303 is enhancing our Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) across the district for the 2021-2022 school year.

This year, students in grades 3-12 will be completing a universal screening tool to assess their social and emotional learning skills. The use of universal screening allows us to refine and strengthen our efforts to help all students achieve success by taking positive and preventative measures as early as possible. This also provides us with the opportunity to assist students who may need additional support with social and emotional learning.

One of the universal screening tools used by the District is the Panorama SEL Survey, which focuses on the following areas:

  • Self-Management

  • Emotional Regulation

  • Social Awareness

  • Grit

  • Self Efficacy

  • Sense of Belonging

  • Teacher-Student Relationship

The Panorama SEL Survey will be completed two times this school year during the weeks of September 27th to October 8th and March 14th to 25th. If a screening shows that a student will benefit from additional skill development, parents will be contacted and will work in collaboration with school staff to problem-solve and determine next steps.

Additional information about this screener and other assessments in District 303 may be found on our website at Thank you for your support and assistance in ensuring each of our students has the opportunity to achieve academic and social-emotional success.

Please feel free to contact your building principal or me if you have questions.
