November 27, 2023
Dear Brown School Families,
I trust this Thanksgiving week is off to a great start for everyone, and I hope you are all able to spend some time connecting as a family amongst the choas the holiday season can sometimes bring.
I am humbled by the kindness and support our students show to one another, our parents show to our teachers and staff, and the quiet ways we all assure our children, staff and families are safe, happy, and learning.Thank you all for all you do to keep the Brown train rolling. I am truly grateful for your support.
Wishing you all a healthy and happy Thanksgiving holiday,
Mary
Principal for a Day
Grace Cummings was the lucky winner of the Principal for a Day raffle this year and she did a fantastic job! Read on for her report on her experience.
A few words from Principal Grace
I started my day by meeting the superintendent McGuinness. Then I took some lovely pictures with my family. I did the morning announcements and reminded everyone to be kind and returned to my office and started writing this column. Then I visited some kindergarten classes, including my sister Millie's class. They were working on the V and W sounds. Then I worked on my letter again. I did two class room observations. Then I walked to Widger Road to meet the all Ms. Maxfield's bosses. Then I had recess with third grade, and then I finished my wonderful letter. I want everyone to know work hard and think happy and be happy.
Grace congratulated by Superintendent McGuinness and Principal Maxfield.

Ruby Bridges Day
On Tuesday, November 14, children across the nation walked to commemorate the bravery and experience of Ruby Bridges. All students and staff gathered in front of the Brown school and together we reflected on how fortunate and grateful we all are to be able to walk to school safely every day. We acknowledged that for Ruby Bridges, it was much more difficult, but she was brave and kind and made a difference. We also acknowledged how important it is for us all to remember her bravery. Then all 500+ of us walked down Baldwin Road, together.
