Reader's & Writers Workshop

In Reader's workshop, we have been building our knowledge on books each week by continuing to practice searching for the themes in books. We have identified the characters, setting, lesson to be learned from the book, and we have practiced writing summaries of books by using the SWBST strategy. The SWBST strategy stands for Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then.

In Writer's workshop, we have been working on stretching out our best memories! The book we have been using as a guide for writing details is Owl Moon.

This week we have been working with 3 digit numbers. We have been reading and writing three digit numerals. We have also been finding three digit numerals on a number line.

We have began a unit on animal habitats. We have looked at the Polar Region, Tropical Rain Forest, Desert, Forest, freshwater and wetlands. Next week, we will go into a more in depth study of habitats.

Social Studies

We have learned that one function of the government is to provide services for the public.

Money is collected to finance these services. We addressed a few of these government services such as libraries, schools, police, firefighters, and parks.
