What are attendance letters for?
- 3 Day Unlawful Letter - This letter is sent home if a student has missed 3 days of school in a quarter that are labeled Unlawful. Unlawful means that a note was not sent in and there is no reason on file as to why the student missed school.
- 5 Day Unlawful Letter - This letter is the same as the 3 Day Unlawful Letter described above but for 5 Unlawful Absences. If you ever feel that you've turned in notes for all your students absences and still received this letter, it's okay to reach out to your classroom teacher or the front office to clear up any confusion.
- 10 Day Letter - If you receive a 10 Day Letter that means your student has missed 10 days of school in total(lawful or unlawful). A 10 day letter can require you to bring in an official note for any absence to be considered lawful.
It's important to understand how many days of school your student has missed. We are approaching our 50th day of school this year which means any student that has missed 5 days, for any reason, is consider chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism can disrupt a student's academic performance. Elementary students who are chronically absent for numerous years also increase their likelihood of dropping out of school.
We're always here to support you and your student. If you are struggling to get your student to school regularly, please reach out and we will do everything we can to support you.
