Physical Fitness Testing Starts Tomorrow!
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:
During the month of March students in grades 5, 7 and 9 in the Simi Valley Unified School District will participate in the California Physical Fitness Test (PFT). The FITNESSGRAM® is the required annual physical fitness test for students in grades five, seven, and nine in California public schools. This health-related fitness test, developed by The Cooper Institute, is intended to help students acquire lifelong habits of regular physical activity.
The FITNESSGRAM® includes tests for key areas of fitness, including aerobic capacity, body composition, abdominal strength and endurance, trunk extensor strength and flexibility, upper body strength and endurance, and flexibility. The five specific tests for these areas of fitness are:
- Abdominal Strength measured by curl ups completed
- Trunk Strength & Flexibility measured by trunk lift
- Upper Body Strength measured by push-ups completed
- Flexibility determined by shoulder stretch
- Aerobic Capacity determined by one-mile run
At Monte Vista, we plan to have students in grades 5, 7 or 9 complete their fitness testing on the following dates:
5th Grade - Monday, March 14, 2022 - 8:30am
7th Grade - Tuesday, March 15, 2022 - 8:30am
9th Grade - Wednesday, March 16, 2022 - 8:30am
Make-up (All Grades) - Thursday, Mar 24, 2022 - 8:30am
Monte Vista Multi-Purpose Room (MPR)
Students should wear comfortable clothes and shoes (tennis shoes are perfect! Please no sandals). We’ll have water on hand, but students might also want to bring a sports drink (Gatorade) and/or water.
Selected teachers will be helping administer the fitness tests on the above dates. If you have any questions about the testing, please call the office.
Thank you,
Stephen Pietrolungo, Ed.D., Principal

We are in need of student and parent volunteers to help our growing program to assist students while planting, visiting our school chickens, and with sewing projects.
A wide range of students from K-12 would greatly benefit from the extra help! Please email Paula Egermeier at paula.egermeier@gmail.com to sign up!
0ur sewing team volunteers have been finding machine sewing may be best suited to our older students, approximately nine years of age and up. They continue to assist and evaluate students’ abilities. It is paramount to be able to have a strong focus and also be able to reach the foot pedal. It’s always a good idea to remind students to keep a strong focus while working with any tools, whether manual or mechanical.

As a 4-H reminder, all parents of younger students are highly encouraged
