EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT
Central Office Communications: Week of November 22, 2020
OUR CURRENT REALITY
Families and Friends,
A message of thanks and appreciation for your understanding and flexibility during this unprecedented time in education and here in our school district. I appreciate your cooperation with following district expectations for student learning for both in person and virtually. We have experienced many changes over the past few months, and I realize that that required everyone to alter the way things have been done with their daily routines. Together, we have made the best of things as we keep our focus on student achievement, a positive climate and culture, and keeping in touch with our community partners as best as we can. Everyone in our school community should be mindful of the efforts that have been made in serving our students and families. Our facilities, transportation, and food services departments have continuously made efforts to support our students and their families in providing services in accordance to health and safety guidelines. Our teachers and staff have warmly embraced students and families, engaged them in the school community, and have provided an education that is relevant in this time of a pandemic. I am grateful for their efforts. As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I remind everyone of the importance of daily gratitude practice as gratitude promotes positive feelings.
We are seeing COVID -19 cases in our school district, county, and state rise each day. We continuously monitor cases and data as we work closely with the Atlantic County Division of Public Health on each case and each case has guidelines for quarantining based on direct contact and/or contact of a contact. Our school nurses and supervisor of nurses research each case by following guidelines set forth by the NJ Department of Health. Those who must quarantine cannot come into our school buildings and at times this puts a strain on class coverage for in-person students. A huge thank you to teachers, staff, and administrators who have pitched in to cover classes so that students can have a ‘live’ teacher for instruction. Despite all the efforts of our school community to continue in-person teaching and learning, please keep in mind that we have to be prepared to pivot to all -virtual teaching and learning if in fact the levels rise to a higher level and/or if we cannot meet our staffing needs for in-person services.
I will continue to remind parents, students, teachers, staff, and administration of the importance of adhering to our health and safety guidelines to assist with maintaining a safe and healthy school environment. Everyone in every building is required to correctly wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth at all times, practice social distancing to the greatest extent possible, and be sure to sanitize hands via hand-washing and/or hand sanitizer. Students and staff who are feeling less than well, should not come into school and are required to fill out a health screening form. Let’s work together to curtail the spread of the virus and keep our schools safe and open for in-person educational opportunities.
My staff and I are available to field any questions that you may have regarding our current reality, as well as the Road Back to School Plan. Please continue to email or call us. I promise that you will receive answers quicker by way of a phone call or email, rather than using social media or seeking information elsewhere. We are your relevant source of information and we are always open to building relationships and learning about the needs of our school community; I encourage you to want the same.
Warm wishes for a peaceful and enjoyable Thanksgiving! I am grateful for you!
Yours in Education,
Kimberly A. Gruccio

CLIMATE & CULTURE
The culture of our schools includes our school improvement efforts to increase student achievement for ALL students. Where with Every Hand Together, Every child, Everyday is provided a relevant learning experience. Through professional development opportunities we are building an effective learning culture where students are provided a safe learning environment. Our teachers collaborate in professional learning communities to review student progress in order to provide ALL students with the opportunity to learn at high levels. We have a district -wide initiative that includes individualized interventions through the RTI process to assist ALL students with learning. We know that in order to successfully educate each student, we must be cognizant of each student’s individual learning needs. This can only be accomplished if we work together to eliminate any predictability of achievement disparities by race, ethnicity, gender, language, disability, and/or economics. All faculty and staff participated in equity training during our professional learning days. The high school multicultural club will be preparing to join the district equity committee to participate in collaborative discussions and event planning. Together, we can achieve more!

ATHLETICS/FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS/ACTIVITIES
OUT WITH THE OLD! IN WITH THE NEW!
We are almost at the point of completion. The field lined and numbered; infill is being applied. The track needs to be lined and that will occur when the field is completed.
MESSAGE TO OUR STUDENT ATHLETES AND FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS
Congratulations to our fall athletic teams who had a great run in playoff competitions. Your efforts and perseverance showed us all your #EHTPride. Our soccer, field hockey, and tennis teams made it deep into the playoff arena and fought tough battles to the very end of each game. Beaks up and Wings out- we have everything to be proud and grateful for. #EHTEAGLES
The NJSIAA shared the guidelines for winter sports and the season has been delayed to 2021 with Basketball and Bowling practices to start on January 11th and competition running from January 26th to March 6th; Swimming and Winter Track & Field can begin practice on February 1st and compete from February 16th to March 27th; Girls Volleyball and Wrestling can begin practice on March 1st and compete from March 16th to Apr. 24th barring the virus does not interfere. We are hopeful that by the time of the winter season, the rate of COVID cases have decreased. Please see the link below for more detailed information on high school winter sports.
The track and field look great! Crews are filling the turf with FieldTurf's exclusive and innovative extruded composite (EC) top dressing called CoolPlay. This system will deliver overall stability and safety for performance as well repelling heat. The track should be lined as soon as the turf is completed. Happy Thanksgiving!
