Second Grade News
Week of May 7-11
Language Arts and Reading
Wow! What a fantastic year with these kiddos! We are wrapping up the school year this week with reading biographies about famous pilots. We started out reading about Amelia Earhart and then we made a paper airplane timeline of her life, focusing on the most important events. Then, we read about Bessie Coleman and the Wright brothers. The last two day of reading this week, the students are putting their engineer caps on and designing paper airplanes that can fly the farthest distance. The challenge is to think about where they can put the weight of a penny without the plane crashing. They have some awesome ideas!
Math
This week we are focusing on reviewing math concepts from the year. To do so, the second graders are competing in a math tournament. Each group gets a question, their partner checks their answer and if they get the question right, they can try for a point by either playing suction cup darts, toss the frog into the pond, or make a basket. All the teams are doing so great! They know their math!
Mother's Day
Thank you, moms, for all you do! You are appreciated!
2nd graders are planning and decorating for a Mother's Day Tea Party for their moms tomorrow, May 11. They also are presenting poems that they wrote to their moms.
