The Broad Street Counselor
Updates on School Counseling at Broad Street Elementary
September 2021
Welcome back!
September is typically the month in our school counseling program where we focus on retraining our brains and becoming learners again. We also focus on the role of the school counselor so that students can know when and how to contact me.
One resource that we will be utilizing this year is a series of books called "A Little Spot." These books provide developmentally appropriate and fun opportunities for students to grow in their knowledge and self-awareness in various areas of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). Research shows that having an extensive emotional vocabulary helps students to better manage their "big emotions" as they grow older.
Take some time to talk to your students about how they are feeling with the start of a new school year. It is very normal to feel a mixture of emotions when our routines are adjusted and we enter into new experiences.
As always, let me know if you need any support. Feel free to send me an email to set up a time to connect via phone or Zoom!
Counseling Lesson: Emotion Detectives
This month my lessons focus on how students can be emotion detectives and figure out how they are feeling given different clues from their words and actions.

I want to hear from you!
Here are two options for you to provide information and feedback for my school counseling program:
Student Information Survey: Tell me about your student and in what areas your family might need support.
School Counseling Program Feedback Form: Tell me your preferences for my school counseling program.
I appreciate your honest feedback as it helps me to continue to improve my program and grow as a school counselor. Thank you in advance for your participation!
