Dear Families
Please consider donating nonperishable snack items for our snack drive. PiE and HCS are partnering to provide weekend snack bags for the rest of the year for students who face food insecurity. You can donate (individual serving size) nonperishable, snack items to donation bins located in the HCS Lobby and at Kinney Drugs - just look for the big, red box! If you would prefer to make a monetary donation to the office or PiE in the form of a check or cash, that would be most welcome as well!

Penguin Plunge
Dear HCS Community,
We hope that you are warm and toasty as you are reading this because in a few months, we will be participating in the 2020 Special Olympics Vermont Penguin Plunge on February 1st, 2020. The Penguin Plunge involves us jumping into the icy waters of Lake Champlain. By participating in the Penguin Plunge, we can give back to people with special needs in the State of Vermont.
In addition to using this as a way of giving back to the community, we are also using the event as a community-building activity within our school. We hope to get as many students and teachers from the Hinesburg Community School 5th – 8th grade involved in the activity to bring us all together. We hope that we can give some students a chance at participating in an event they may not have had prior by fundraising together to meet the minimum fundraising amount for each participant.
Finally, we hope that this event helps all students gain acceptance of all people, no matter their abilities or disabilities. Each participant must raise a minimum of $150 in order to participate in the actual Plunge. Please consider supporting our Plunge with a donation amount of your choice. Checks can be made out to “Special Olympics Vermont”. You can also donate to Mr. Lasher’s plunge page online and he will disperse the funds to students in need. The web address is: https://give.specialolympicsvermont.org/fundraiser/2452069
Your donation will directly impact the lives of the 1,054 Special Olympics Vermont athletes. For more information about Special Olympics Vermont, you can visit www.specialolympicsvermont.org or you can visit www.penguinplunge.org for more information about this wacky winter event.
Thank you,
The Hinesburg Community School Penguin Plunge Team

Community Assistance
Hello School Partners/Caregivers:
December can be a time of both celebration and stress. Winter brings increased costs and less light. Many families struggle to manage the busy days and financial demands. Below is a list of community resources that can offer assistance.
- The Vermont 2-1-1 database: Maintained by the United Way, the most up-to-date database of local resources, services and programs. Search the online database, text your zip code to 898211 or call 2-1-1 to talk to an information and referral specialist between 8 am and 8 pm.
Sincerely,
Betsy Boland

WINTER WONDERLAND BALL
There will be a dance for Hinesburg Community School students in Grades 6 through 8 on Friday, December 13th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the gym. Permission slips are available here. If students would like to host a friend from another school they should speak to Mr. Pontius this week. Refreshments are available for sale in the lobby. The admission price for each student is $8.00.. To support our kids in our own school, $1 of each admission will be donated to the program to support HCS kids with food insecurity. Students must have their money and signed permission slip to gain entrance into the dance. Students are asked to arrive no earlier than 6:00 p.m. The dance ends promptly at 9:00 p.m., and the chaperones greatly appreciate students being picked up on time. Please pick up in the gym at or before 9:00 p.m. For safety reasons, we do not dismiss students on their own.
