THE LENS
Issue #70
Week of 11/16-11/22
It's been snowing all week, as we start of Quarter 2!
This Friday, 11/18, teachers have a Professional Development Day, so students will not have school.
Next week is a three-day week, with class from 11/21-11/23 (Thursday 11/24 & 11/25 no school).
Gordon Parks Students at the Overcoming Racial Equity Conference 11/11/22
Gordon Parks Students Did an Amazing Job at the Conference!
The student presentation was entitled "We Roll The Dice" and it was an innovative presentation that focused on housing inequalities and intergenerational wealth. Enjoy the photos, and stay tuned for the film being made about our presentation.
Congratulations to Joseph, Winner of the Optimist Scholarship
Optimist Scholarship
Joseph is a student leader here at Gordon Parks. Joseph is a highly motivated student who has overcome personal obstacles. His GPHS counselor Dan Kennedy nominated him for the Optimist scholarship and he won!
There are only 16 winners in pubic/private schools who win this scholarship/award each year, so it is a highly competitive scholarship. A panel of fifteen different people weight things like academics, volunteering, personal characteristics and obstacles the applicant has had to overcome.
SPPS counselors, TRIO and others help to tell the student's story by interviewing students and then submitting nominations. Joseph will be getting $3,000 to apply to cost the college he decides to attend. Way to go Joseph!
