Lil Cyclone Family Newsletter
Dwight Elementary..........March 2023
A Note From The Principal....
Hello Dwight families!
As we continue our school-wide focus on teaching life skills, we have created a behavior matrix called, The Cyclone Way. We are teaching our Lil Cyclones what it means to be safe, respectful, and responsible in specific areas around our campus. Students are rewarded with Cyclone Success Tickets when they demonstrate being safe, respectful, and responsible at school. Every Monday morning, we do our morning announcements live through Google Meet where one ticket is drawn from each grade level. The winners get to choose a reward from Mrs. Malin's prize board. You can check out our behavior matrix and prize board below!
How can you help support teaching life skills from home?
* First and foremost, make sure your child is on time and at school all day long every day unless they are sick. When our students are not at school, we can't teach them and they miss out on learning! This teaches a life skill that will be important when they have a job and must show up for work every day!
* Second, read books aloud to your child at home on a regular basis. This is one of the most effective ways to improve reading! Reading is key to everything in life.
* Third, limit the amount of technology, YouTube, and video games at home and ensure there is no access to them when they should be sleeping. WIthout boundaries, technology has negative and harmful effects on children.
* Last, ensure that your child goes to bed at an appropriate time so they get a good night's sleep. Sleep is critical to physical and mental well-being!
With so much negativity in the world and on social media, we encourage you to help be a change in the world! Be a role model for your child. They are listening to your words, your tone, and how you respond to challenges....even when you think they aren't! Share positivity on social media. We would love for you to share positive things about our school with others. We are teaching our students how to be a positive influence on those around them, and we encourage you to do this alongside with us!
