Hamlet Quote Project

My Quote: Revealed

In Act 1, Scene 2, and Line 185 of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Hamlet is alone in an audience chamber in the Elsinore Castle. His father has died, and his mothers wedding is coming up soon. When Horatio, Marcellus and Bernardo walk in to speak with him, he and Horatio begin to talk about Hamlets father. Hamlet tells Horatio that he thinks he is seeing his father. When Horatio asks him where, he answers "in my minds eye". This means that he is seeing his father in his imagination and is missing him because "[he] shall not look upon his like again" (lines 187-188). The tone changes from sentimental to suspicious as Horatio then admits to Hamlet that he saw his fathers ghost. Hamlet is finally beginning to figure out that things are not lining up straight with how he died.
