The Weekly Hoot
June 24 - June 30, 2019
Greetings All -
I hope you all had a great week! As I typed the date at the top of the Hoot, I was totally shocked that it is almost already July!!! What???? That is so hard to believe!
We have had a busy week here at school. Summer school has been going full steam, Kindergarten teachers met, 3rd-5th grade Math and Science teachers have met, and I was at the Administrative Retreat planning for next year! Lots going on! This coming week will be the last week that Laney and Corzine are here. I am going to be "hit or miss" at the school during July as well. So if you need to see us, come on up this week!
Speaking of coming up and seeing us, please remember that the custodial and maintenance department has asked if we could just "have a summer" for about three weeks and not come up and work in our rooms. They are about halfway through with waxing (green hall rooms, red hall rooms and hallway, old blue hall rooms have all been done and yellow hall rooms will be this week), but it is so much easier if they can just get in there and get it done. Also, the crew from TDCJ will be coming in to paint, the gym floor is going to be waxed, and the AC people are going to begin work. So I told them we could certainly "get out of their way" (my words, not theirs) for a little while. Beginning on Monday, July 8, please enjoy your summer until Friday, July 26 and don't come up to school! :) Hopefully, when you come back, all floors will be waxed and furniture back into classrooms. I know that people will be coming up for library visits or up to the office, but please don't plan on working in your rooms during this time. That way everything can get done. We have a lot to do, but before it can be done, we need to give the custodians and Lee time to get their part done. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation with this.
This week, master schedule has been a top priority. It is 90% done. I just have to work out a few details. I feel like next week I will be able to share it with everyone and let the questions begin. :)
We have decided to leave the flex room in the yellow hall JUST the flex room. The CLC room is going to be put into Anz's old class room. That just made more sense after we got going on moving things.
Just so you know, at the school board meeting this week I found out we are at or above state average on every test!!! As we well know, these scores belong to all of us, so pat yourselves on the back or look and see where you can help to make these scores improve.
Question for this week... tell me what you think about our grading practices and grading policy. What do you think about reteach/retest? What do you think about standards-based vs. numerical grades? Tell me where you think we can improve and let me know what you think we are doing right. I am not looking to upset the whole apple cart at all and I know we made some changes last year. Were those changes enough? I just want opinions because I hear about this a lot from both teachers and parents.
Lastly, don't forget about sending in those summer pics!!
Whew! I think that is it for now! Everyone have a great week! Enjoy this great, HOT summertime weather! I am about to head out to Bremond for the Polish Days there. Rumor has it that "Hank Williams" is making an appearance later this afternoon! :)
Love to all -
-- Marcy :)
