Hispanic Heritage Month

Dr. Maritza Chavez

Dr. Maritza Chavez, dentist, came to Ford Library on October 13, 2015. She spoke to 4th Grade about growing up in the Valley, her education, and now her successful career.

Sotomayor Early College High School Volunteers @ Ford Library

Sotomayor Early College High School students come every Friday for 2 1/2 hours and volunteer at the Ford Library. Sotomayor's librarian, Mrs. Castillo, and ELA teacher, Mrs. Garcia, collaborated with Ford librarian, Ms. Marchese, to have students volunteer helping 1st Grade children read. Pre-K and Kinder students have also benefited greatly by these wonderful girls coming to assist in learning activities for the boys and girls at Ford Elementary.

R.I.P. (Read In Peace) Room

During their library time October 26 - 30, students brought flashlights to "RIP" (Read In Peace). The AV room was decorated for the season along with sound effects. Students read books and listened to stories using their flashlights. A fun educational time was had by all!

Storybook Pumpkin Decorating Contest

A "Storybook Pumpkin Decorating Contest" was held October 19 - 30 at Ford Elementary Library.

Many creative and unique storybook pumpkins were entered.

Pumpkin Patch Walkthrough

During Ford Elementary Fall Festival October 29 the library hosted a Pumpkin Patch Walkthrough. Parents and students were able to view all the different decorated pumpkins participating in the contest.

1st Six Weeks Student of the Month Incentive

Student of the month incentive was held at the Ford Library on November 6. Students were allowed to use technology as well as board games and puzzles to enrich their minds. Volunteer students from Sotomayor Early College High School, our next door neighbor, assisted the students in their activities.

Veteran's Day Reception

November 11, 2015

Veterans were honored in a program at the Jose Perez Gym to show appreciation

for their bravery and sacrifice serving our country. Afterwards they were treated to a brunch in the Ford Library.
