#9 Covid19 Notice

18 August 2021; Moving to Alert Level 4: Wed - Friday

Dear Parents, Whānau and Caregivers

We are now all in Alert Level 4 which means that our school is closed to everyone. This follows one person initially, and now several people, being identified with COVID-19 and who have been in the Auckland and Coromandel communities while believed to be infectious.

Thank you for making alternative arrangements for your child/ren at such short notice. We appreciate your support while staff are working on learning at home plans.

You may wish to read information that was put together by the Ministry of Education last year to support parent conversations with your children – Talking to children about COVID-19.

What follows is a quick update to let you know where we are at with planning for Level 4. We are taking guidance from the Ministry of Education and like you, we are closely following the MOH briefings which will also guide our next steps.

What are our plans?

Big picture

Learning at home

Paparangi's remote learning plan gives teachers 3 days to prepare for an online learning programme, so online learning will not start this week. Teachers will make contact over the next two days about what this will look like for each team of learners.

With such short notice we weren’t able to hand out devices to senior students or learning packs to junior students in order to support learning from home. We are putting in plans in place and if it is needed we will be in touch with information about loaning devices.

All students are invited to connect online with their teacher and class on Friday (various times, see above chart.) We hope as many children as possible can join in, but we understand that this won't possible for everyone yet.

Our learning at home plans will not look the same as a traditional school day at Paparangi. However, it will provide students with age-appropriate home learning options and specific tasks that are directly related to the curriculum. The learning at home plan will follow the school timetable; Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm, but there will be lots of flexibility in order to meet the needs of all sorts of family circumstances.

Please be assured that we will send the information you need for home learning if it is needed, and teachers are available by email to answer all your questions.

General information

Schools are closed until further notice, including playgrounds and fields. If you are out walking, please stay away from the school premises.

For families new to Paparangi School (we have over 40 new families so far this year) please check in with your child's home class teacher if you have any wonderings at all. We are here to help.

We will continue to communicate with you over the coming days. Please, stay home, stay safe and hopefully we will be able to return to a lesser alert level quickly.

Our focus as always is to support the learning, safety and wellbeing of our tamariki and staff and we continue to be here to support all our parents as well. Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or me, if there is something you need assistance with.
