School Library System

Week of June 10-14, 2019

Big picture

A Note from Kerrie...

Before you head out of the library on that last day of school, I wanted to thank you for all that you have done for students this year. Whether it was participating in professional learning that you then used in your library, starting a new program, or making a difference to that one student that nobody seems to be able to reach, remember that you have influence on all of the students in the school simply because the library is for everyone. Pat yourself on the back for all that you accomplished this year.

Here at the SLS, we will be working on hiring a new School Library System Specialist, putting in all those database orders, and planning another great year for you! It is going to be an exciting year next year with a revised Information Fluency Continuum, revised School Library Program Rubric, and other great learning opportunities! Maybe I'll even see you at one or more of our great learning opportunities this summer (see catalog below).

So, enjoy your vacation and rest up because next year we will be riding the waves of change and becoming beacons for learning.

Looking for Something to Read this Summer?

Why not catch up on all of the journal articles you didn't have time to read during the school year? Questar III SLS provides professional magazines to all librarians in the region for FREE. We now have subscriptions to:

1. Booklist

2. Computers in Libraries

3. Horn Book Magazine

4. School Library Journal

There are two ways to access the journals:

1. Go to: http://bit.ly/ProJournals and log in using the information below. Using this method of viewing the journals will allow you to print articles.

2. Download the Flipster app from your favorite app store. Click on Get Started. Complete a search for Questar III BOCES. Choose Questar III BOCES and then enter the username and password. Articles are not able to be printed from the app.

The log in information is available by contacting Kerrie.

Please do not share this information with anyone else. The terms of the agreement specifically say that our subscriptions are for school librarians in our Questar III region ONLY. Once you are logged in and you choose a journal, you will see that you have access not only to this month's journal, but to previous issues as well. Each subscription has an unlimited number of users at a time so there is no need to worry about trying to access the journals one at a time.

The photo decorating Martha von Schilgen's window in the picture below is the senior English teacher. His likeness was also on every locker all the way down the hall. He said the hall never looked so good!

Union Catalog - Records Needed

So that we may update the union catalog over the summer, please send your catalog records to Kerrie ASAP. It is a requirement for our funding that we have an updated union catalog. Your assistance in keeping our catalog current for all users is greatly appreciated!

Schools who are part of Follett library automation through Questar III do not need to submit records.

Interlibrary Loan Statistics Due Today

Reporting these statistics is important as they are tied to our funding which helps provide resources to you and your students. The form used to report your statistics can be found on our LibGuide on the Interlibrary Loan tab. Please email your ILL statistics to Kerrie by Friday, June 21st. Thank you for your assistance!
