Student Council
Parents,
This year we are accepting box tops all year long. In the fall semester, they can be turned in to your child's teacher with your child's name and the teacher's name throughout the semester. The top five students in each grade level will get to attend breakfast with Santa. We will collect box tops again in the spring semester, and the top five students in each grade level will get to attend a popsicle party outside on the playground.
In addition to turning in box tops the old fashion way, you can now also download the app to have your earnings count toward your student in each of these competitions. When you download the app and create an account, be sure to select Pine Forest Elementary in Humble, Tx to ensure your box tops go towards our school as there are multiple Pine Forest Elementary schools.
Each time you shop, open your app and take a picture of your receipt to submit, and it will show you how much you have earned for PFE. At the end of each semester by the due dates for the competition be sure to screenshot your app and send the photo in an email to pedward@humbleisd.net to have your earnings go toward your student. In the email please be sure to include your student's name, teacher's name, and their grade. We can also split them evenly among all of your children if that info is provided.
To participate in earning box tops, be sure that all paper box tops and emailed screenshots are turned in by December 6th, 2019 to be in the running for breakfast with Santa and by May 8th to be in the running for the popsicle party.
Thanks,
Payton Edwards & Jennifer Howard

Viral Gastroenteritis or The Stomach Flu
I have seen several students this past week with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. There is no specific medical treatment for stomach flu. Antibiotics aren’t effective against viruses so treatment initially consists of self-care measures. The most important goal is to replace lost fluids and salts. Here are some tips to help you get your child well and back to school.
Help your child rehydrate. Give your child an oral rehydration solution, available at pharmacies without a prescription. Talk to your doctor if you have questions about how to use it. Don't give your child plain water — in children with gastroenteritis, water isn't absorbed well and won't adequately replace lost electrolytes. Avoid giving your child apple juice for rehydration — it can make diarrhea worse.
Get your child back to a normal diet slowly. Gradually introduce bland, easy-to-digest foods, such as toast, rice, bananas, and potatoes.
Avoid certain foods. Don't give your child dairy products or sugary foods, such as ice cream, sodas, and candy. These can make diarrhea worse.
Make sure your child gets plenty of rest.
Avoid giving your child over-the-counter anti-diarrheal medications, unless advised by your doctor. They can make it harder for your child's body to eliminate the virus.
And per district policy: Please keep your children home if they have vomiting, diarrhea or a temperature greater than 100 degrees.
They may return 24 hours after vomiting or diarrhea ceases and/or temperature below 100 without Tylenol/Advil for 24 hours.
Thank you for helping me keep your children and all the other classroom children well by following these rules.
