Building Our Future

DJUSD Bond Program Newsletter

June 2022

As we approach the end of another school year, DJUSD has been fortunate to see so much growth at several school sites thanks to our Davis community and their patronage of Measure M Bond projects. These projects serve to support our staff and students through the provision of modern technology, the capability to accommodate growth, the development of improved infrastructure and the implementation of sustainability efforts through the creation of these educational facilities. Construction activities will be ongoing this summer so keep reading to find out more about changes happening at your schools. Have a happy and safe summer! We’ll see you next year!

Career Technical Education (CTE) Project Enhancements at DSHS

On March 31, DJUSD held a small, informal groundbreaking event for the CTE project enhancements taking place at Davis High. Attendees commemorated the event at the site where the new Robotics building will be constructed; on the southwest corner of campus. Roebbelen Construction shared a wonderful video of the event. If you haven’t had a chance to view it, you can check it out online.

In preparation for this new building, trees were cleared at the beginning of April and the staging area was fenced off to provide a safe zone for pedestrian and biking traffic around the construction site. The Robotics/Engineering pathway will provide a long overdue expansion of the Robotics facilities by constructing two additional classrooms and enhancing existing Robotics spaces as well. Concurrent to the new build, the CTE Ag pathway will see enhancements and the Transportation pathway will be home to a new vehicle bay to support electric vehicles. Visit our website for more information or to view renderings of each project online.

Davis Senior High School STEM Building

The new STEM Building at DSHS will be the largest Measure M Bond project to be constructed. With construction anticipated to begin this fall, the new STEM building will lay a foundation of support for 12 new lab classrooms, prep rooms, restrooms and storage. Placed on the east side of campus, adjacent to the Brunelle Performance Hall, this beautiful building is scheduled to be completed by Fall 2023. More information can be found on our website.

New Aquatic Center Construction Timeline

DSHS will be home to another large project on campus; the new Aquatic Center. Currently in design mode, the Center will include 17 lanes, 2 diving boards, space for regulation floating goal water polo courses as well as changing rooms, restrooms, an equipment room and deck and spectator space.

In an effort to mitigate pedestrian flow and safety on campus, construction of the Aquatic Center will occur consecutively to the STEM building and is scheduled to begin in the Fall 2023. The Aquatic Center will require the removal of 10 portable classrooms which will be absorbed with the existence of the new STEM building.

Commencement Ceremonies at the New Pamela Mari Da Vinci High School Tech Hub

The new quad for the Da Vinci High School (DVHS) Tech Hub is now complete! With commencement ceremonies taking place throughout the District next week, Da Vinci High School will be hosting its graduation ceremony on the new quad with a dynamic view of the new Pamela Mari Da Vinci Tech Hub as the backdrop.

We are excited for the completion of this Bond project which is anticipated for summer 2022. Learn more on our website.

New MPR Celebration at Birch Lane Elementary

On Tuesday, May 10 at 5:00 p.m., DJUSD commemorated the new multipurpose room at Birch Lane Elementary with a celebratory ribbon cutting. This new bond-funded facility will accommodate assembly seating for the entire school and also provide a stage, music room, warming kitchen and staff and student all-gender restrooms. The DJUSD Board of Education, students, staff and neighbors were in attendance to celebrate this new space. Thank you to our Davis voters, our District and our community for your support of this Bond Project!

New MPR at Willett Elementary is Now Complete!

Construction activities are winding down for the new MPR at Willett Elementary. Demobilization has commenced and limited occupancy of the MPR began this week. Once approval is in place, full student and staff occupancy will begin next week. Due to time and scheduling constraints, a ribbon cutting to celebrate this Bond project will be postponed until Fall 2022. Be on the lookout for messaging from the school site with more information in the coming months for that celebratory event. You can also stay up to date on our website to follow any news events or new projects in the district.

Neighborhood Impact Mitigation

Any large construction project is certain to impact adjacent residents. DJUSD wants to be a good neighbor, and we are doing everything reasonably possible to reduce traffic, noise and dust. Ongoing mitigation measures include traffic control plans, adherence to the the City of Davis construction work hour ordinance, frequent watering of construction areas to reduce dust, close coordination with the City and the Davis Police Department as well as thorough communication plans with school sites and adjacent neighbors. Thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate through these changes together.
