Who was Helen Hunt Jackson?
She was a poet and an authour. She married and had two children, but unfortunetly, they all died of seperate causes. Later on in her life, she listened to a talk from Cheif Standing bear. He described the forced removal of indians and Helen was disgusted by the things that had gone on. She decided that it wasn't right and that she was going to do something about it. She chose to collect information about the horrible crimes commited against Native Americans and write about it.
Ramona
This is Helen's most famous book and she is mostly known just for this. It's about a girl in the mexican war who experiances racial discrimination because she is mixed and an orphan. This reflects Helen's feelings about discrimination and segregation.
A Century Of Dishonor
This book was also very popular. It's non-fiction and has many different experiences of mistreatment and injustice of Native Americans. This is what she did in an effort to spread the word about it so that there would be no ignorance of the situation. She didn't want it to be swept under the rug.
