2022-23 School Year
SEPTEMBER 2022
Good Afternoon William Penn Families!
We hope that this information finds you and your family settling into your back to school routines this week. I know at my house we’re still struggling with the morning a little as well as balancing our activities and school responsibilities! However, we’ve seen a lot of improvement compared to where we were this time last week.
We are reaching out this week with some updates and reminders as we look forward to the rest of this month.
Sincerely,
Chris Becker
Principal
William Penn Middle School
FALL SPORTS UPDATES
Our Cheerleading and Volleyball teams began their tryouts this week at WPMS.
Football held an informational meeting yesterday, Wednesday, September 7 along with equipment distribution for both our lightweight (under 120 pounds) and heavyweight (over 120 pounds)football teams. They will continue any equipment distribution, sign ups, and begin workouts the remainder of this week.
Field Hockey is holding an informational meeting today after school for interested athletes. Their plan is to begin tryouts at the start of next week.
Due unforeseen circumstances for our staff members who were slated to coach soccer this season we are currently actively recruiting to fill our soccer coach position. If you know anyone who is interested in helping to lead our soccer program for us this school year please reach out to me as soon as possible. In addition, word of mouth to help publicize this need in the community is always greatly appreciated.
FALL SPORTS SCHEDULES
Use the following link to access our High School’s Website where all of our district’s sports programs schedules for the year are constantly updated. This is your best resource for the most up to date schedule information for Middle School Sports Schedules.
PHYSICALS
As previously mentioned, in order for students to participate in Interscholastic Sports the PIAA (PA Interscholastic Athletic Association) requires that all students have an updated physical that has been completed after June 1, 2022. Please use the following link to access this paperwork that has been shared previously at the start of the school year. In addition, there are paper copies available in our main office area for students.
SOAR+ and TMF (Travis Manion Foundation)
We are excited to partner this year with our Pennsbury Partner Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) to continue our pursuit of developing our students to be lifelong learners and purpose-driven individuals within our community.
The mantra, “If Not Me Then Who?” is one that will drive our school in positive ways to make positive choices. TMF is dedicated to developing strong character and leadership in all people and the founding of their foundation is in the legacy of a local veteran Travis Manion who served our country heroically before making the ultimate sacrifice in 2007.
This partnership will lead to positive experiences for us in the form of service projects, mentorships with veterans, and additional collaboration in November for Veteran’s Day. Within our school all of our teams this year have created actual “Names” as opposed to the letters A-B-C-D. These names will all fall under the same theme as a school together and united in one common vision.
Our SOAR+ program is being upgraded this school year in tremendous ways for our students and staff. As our students transitioned back to full time in person learning we have learned a lot over the past two years about our students and their needs. We are eager to implement these additional meaningful changes to strengthen our school community and relationships within our school.
