William Lloyd Garrison
William Loyd Garrison was an abolitionist who published the newspaper "The Liberator". The news paper talked about the evils of slavery.He and other abolitionists formed the American Anti-Slavery Society which published books and papers about the evils of slavery.
Sojourner Truth
Sojourner Truth was the first woman to be recognized as a anti-slavery speaker. She was born a slave in New York but was freed through gradual emancipation.After she was emancipated she used the bible to tell people about the evils of slavery.
Fredrick Douglass
Fredrick Douglass taught himself to read and write while he was a slave.He escaped slavery and became a eloquent speaker for the abolitionists movement.He published a anti- slavery news paper called the"North Star"and wrote his auto biography that talked about the conditions of slavery.He encouraged Lincoln to emancipate slaves during the Civil War.

Harriet Tubman was a escaped slave who became one of the most successful "conductors" of the Underground Railroad.She was able to lead over 300 slaves to a new life from the south to the north.
Harriet Beecher Stowe
Harriet Beecher Stowe was the author of the book Uncle Tom`s Cabin.The book became a best seller and revealed the cruelty of slavery to many people.She wrote the book in response to the Fugitive Slave Act that was passed as a part of the Compromise of 1850.She often disagreed with Lincoln for delaying the Emancipation Proclamation.

John Brown was a abolitionist who tried to rebel against slavery by giving slaves weapons.He led a raid on the federal arsenal, Harpers Ferry.He and his men failed on this attack.They were captured by Robert E. Lee and his troops.John Brown and his men were found guilty of treason and were hung.
