ALB First Friday Newsletter
Hello April!
It's hard to believe that on April 14, it is the first Friday of the month, but here we are! We trust you had a great Spring Break. We have loved having the students back at school this week.
Testing season is officially upon us. The specific calendar of Milestones testing for Grades 3-5 is in the newsletter below, but please make every effort to have your child(ren) here no later than 8:30 each day. Also, students who are testing will not finish before 11:30 each day, so please keep that in mind if you must check out your child for an appointment. Students cannot join the testing sessions late, so they will have to sit in a waiting area and take the test on Makeup Day. Please also make sure that students are getting a good night's sleep before each test and are encouraged to do their best. We do not want children to be filled with anxiety and stress. While this is an important test, it does not define them. We simply ask that they do the best they can each day.
Testing isn't the only thing happening in April! We also have the PTA meeting on April 27 at 6:30pm and the Kindergarten Performance on April 28 at 1:45pm.
All students K-5 will take their Spring MAP test in Reading and in Math in May. Also forthcoming in May is Feed My Schools week. Burruss is the only school in the state chosen to participate in this awesome opportunity! Restaurants and farms from all over Georgia will be feeding our children breakfast and lunch each day. We look forward to many guest speakers and visitors that week!
IB Corner
Did you know that currently 26 International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) schools are in Georgia?
A. L. Burruss is working hard to join the list of progressive educators and schools that are focused on providing their students with relevant, global learning experiences. All members of the school community are encouraging students to take action and become compassionate lifelong learners. “The IB has broadened access to the PYP by making it available to a wide range of schools, all willing to support the mission of the IB and prepared to commit to the standards and practices drawn up to ensure successful implementation of the program. IB World Schools offering the PYP include state or national-system schools as well as independent-fee paying schools.”
Did you know that Marietta City Schools offers ALL FOUR IB programmes?
The IB offers a continuum of 4 programmes:
Primary Years Programme (Sawyer Road Elementary & A.L. Burruss an IB Candidate School)
Middle Years Programme (Marietta Sixth Grade Academy, Marietta Middle School, Marietta High School: Grades 9 and 10)
Diploma Programme (Marietta High School: Grades 11 and 12)
Career - Related Programme (Marietta High School: Grades 11 and 12)
A.L. Burruss is proud to be an IB PYP candidate school in an IB Continuum School District and anxiously awaits our IB Verification visit, May 8th and 9th.
