Lighthouse School of Academic Distinction Award
Ridge Wood has recently been named a Leader in Me Lighthouse School of Academic Distinction! An "Academic Distinction" honor is given to schools that are at or above the 85th percentile for the state's combined proficiency standards. Look for our new Lighthouse Banner that highlights this accomplishment in the coming weeks!
Congratulations to our NEF Grant Award Winners!
The Northville Educational Foundation awarded grants totaling $29,571.00 this year. 43 teachers and 22 projects across the district were awarded Innovative Grants. Funding is made possible through generous contributions from NPS staff, parents, and community members. When there is support, Innovative Grants and other impactful programming is possible!
$2,015.21 was awarded to Ms. Janke, for the Ridge Wood Storywalk project! WOW!!
The Ridge Wood Storywalk Project is an educational and creative way to combine the pleasures of reading children's books with the benefits of walking an outdoor pathway lined with informational picture book posts. This innovative approach to reading helps build children's interest toward reading while encouraging healthy outdoor activity for both children and adults. It may be used during brain breaks, recess, incorporated time with their teachers, and outside of school hours with family.
$1,383 was awarded to Mrs. Foster and the ESL Department.
The ESL department will purchase a karaoke machine for each ESL classroom in the district. A karaoke machine with recording capabilities will allow newcomers to sing along with written lyrics or practice speaking, individually or with others. This will get students comfortable with speaking into a microphone, which they will need to do for the WIDA assessment. Additionally, it will help their literacy and fluency. Class discussions can revolve around song lyrics and the emotions of songs. Students will have fun while honing in on their speaking skills in a less-intimidating environment.
$240.10 was awarded to Mrs. Segerstrom and Maria Key for the Spanish for Elementary Spanish Speakers project.
Spanish for Spanish Speakers will help heritage or near-native Spanish speaking students increase their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in the Spanish language. This will be done at an age- and proficiency-appropriate level. This program will give heritage or near-native speakers an opportunity to speak and practice the Spanish language with other Spanish speaking students, who are at a level beyond that of the regular Spanish language classroom, but yet lack specific skills of a native speaker.

Help Us Stop the Spread of the Flu!
It is a great time to remind everyone of our building procedures during
the ‘Cold & Flu’ season.
- If your child has vomited, they must remain home for 24 hours.
- Children must be fever free for 24 hours (without the use of medicine.)
- Please notify the main office of any contagious conditions (strep, pink eye, chicken pox, head lice, mumps, measles, etc.)
Taking these steps will definitely help contain the spread of colds and flu!
