HALO HIGHLIGHT
Dear Saints Parents,
As our week of midterms ends tomorrow, I am sure your sons and daughters are looking forward to a break. The only question is: are you ready to have them home for two weeks?
On behalf of our entire school administration, faculty and staff, I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas, and a happy, healthy and safe New Year!
See you in 2019! Please note: classes resume Tuesday, Jan. 8.
God Bless,
Andrew R. Bradley
Principal
Online Re-Enrollment Period Starts Jan. 21, 2019
New student priority applications for 2019-2020 are closed. For current families: the Open Application and Re-Enrollment period is from Jan. 21-Feb. 4, 2019. You must re-enroll online during this time period to ensure your spot at St. Louis Catholic for next year. For more information on Admissions, including key dates, click here to visit our website.
If you know a prospective Saints student/family who would like a tour of our campus, please direct them to Heather Ieyoub, Director of Admissions, at hieyoub@slchs.org or 436-7275 Ext. 244. This is a great way to get any last-minute questions answered regarding enrollment at St. Louis Catholic.
Stephanie Robertson, Art Students Discuss Memory Project on Fox29 Morning Show
CLICK HERE to check out St. Louis Catholic visual arts teacher Stephanie Robertson with students Sophie Stine and Chandler Cormier on Fox29 Monday morning. They joined the show to discuss their work with the Memory Project, painting portraits of poor children in Colombia who have never seen pictures of themselves before.
... Watch Video of the Portrait Delivery to Colombia (Grab a Kleenex!)
Mrs. Robertson’s Art II class received the delivery video of their portraits to the children in Colombia - the BEST Christmas gift! The students loved to see their hand-painted portraits go to “their kids," showing we are truly all connected. CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS.
Here's a letter from Ben Schumaker, Memory Project Founder and Director:
Dear Art Teachers and Artists,
Last week I had the privilege of delivering the beautiful portraits you made for the children in Colombia. It was my second time there, and I'd have to say this is my favorite children's charity the world over. The work they do to help these precious kids begin their lives with a solid foundation is simply amazing.
Olga Lucia, the director of the charity Fundacion Hogar Integral, told me that they would love for you to know more about them. Click here to learn more about the school and feeding center for the children we painted.
Right now they are in need of more people to sponsor the children in their feeding program. If you are interested in sponsoring the very same child who received your artwork, just let me know and I will put you in touch!
Thank you so much for being part of this,
Ben
Home Economics Classes Construct Artful Gingerbread Houses
Ms. Patina Guidry's Food Services classes had their gingerbread structures on display this week in the Commons, including replicas of the White House, castles, row houses, Santa’s workshop and many others for the school to enjoy.
Students said it was a challenge - they completed a “practice run” with graham crackers, made the dough from scratch, and individually cut walls and rooftops using templates. They said the hardest part was “rolling out the dough the perfect thickness (not too heavy but not too thin)," and the most fun part of course was decorating. What a perfect way to usher in the Christmas spirit on campus as the second quarter comes to a close!
Saints Earbuds Make Great Christmas Stocking Stuffers!
Teachers ask students to keep earbuds in their computer bags for activities in Edpuzzle, Quizizz, etc., and the library is selling earbuds for $5 right now. You can purchase them in the library or the front office. They come in a nice microfiber bag that can be used to wipe a computer screen. We will use all money raised to purchase new fiction books.
Saints Faculty Spotlight: Madison Guidry
What is it like teaching our Transitions program? It is very rewarding to work with each and every one of them. They are all unique, which is part of the challenge in helping them learn in their own ways. It’s also why I love it, because when they succeed in something it really feels special. They teach me about God’s love for us every day, and I definitely learn more from them than I teach them.
Favorite food? Pasta & Mexican food is definitely a tie!
Best moment at St. Louis Catholic so far? Going to adoration with the Transitions kids (We didn’t have adoration on Mass days when I was in high school).
What will we most likely find you doing on a weekend? My husband and I often go to neon bowling on Friday nights with our friends, and we always are spending time with our families and many nieces and nephews. Family time is so important to us, and being “Aunt Mads” is one of my favorite roles in life.
