The meaning of sickle cell anemia- sickle cell anemia is a server hereditary form of anemia in which a mutated form of hemoglobin distorts the red blood cells into a crescent snap at low oxygen levels it is most common among African Americans.

Who is affected by this diseases

There are more than 100 Americans affect by this diseases than African Americans.

The result of a point mutation a change in just on nucleotide in the gene.


Mutation in the hemoglobin beta gene if found in chromosome 11

Name of the gene

The name of the gene is hemoglobin beta-globin HBB is the gene that provides instructions for making protein called hemoglobin


Possible treatments

  • Medications
  • Blood transfusion
  • Bone-marrow transplant

Possible cure

There is not a cure but sometimes if you try medication and a bone-marrow transplant is a possibility for sickle cell anemia to be cured. But it does. It always work but if it does your very lucky.

Sickle cell is a disease of the blood when the cause is the sickle cell shape of RBCs and that is the reason the name is sickle cell anemia.
