Preschool Attire & Bookbag
August 14, 2019
Clothing & Shoes
Our program will involve all types of painting and creative activities, sensory activities, outdoor and active on-the-floor play. "Messiness" is a valuable and releasing experience. Clothing should be durable, casual, and washable. Clothing should assist both the child and the teacher when making those quick trips to the bathroom - pants that pull up and down easily without complicated belts.
We strongly recommend rubber soled shoes for the preschool day; rubber soled shoes are safer when participating in large motor activities both inside and outside. No flip flops, open-toes sandals, or open-backed shoes/sandals. Crocs are acceptable as long as the back strap is used; please consider your child's ability to keep them on and their tolerance for sand/rocks getting into their shoes.
Weather permitting, we use the playground daily unless it is raining, extremely hot or extremely cold. Please send necessary coats, sweaters, and hats.
Please make sure to write your child's name on all articles of clothing, lunch boxes, and book bags. (Names on lunch boxes or book bags can be on the inside.)
Bookbag
Each child will need a backpack to bring to school each day. When selecting a backpack, please be sure that it:
* will hold a 9x12 communication folder easily
* will hold 1 or 2 extra change(s) of clothing easily
* will hold diapers or pull-ups for our toddlers and twos easily
* will allow your child to pack and unpack independently (threes and fours)
Over the years, we have noticed that the smaller backpacks make it difficult for everything to fit or for the children to maneuver their belongings.
Inside the Bookbag
Each day, the book bag should contain:
* Preschool Communication Folder (you will receive at Meet the Teacher Open House)
* 1 or 2 complete extra change(s) of clothing
* diapers or pull-ups for children in our toddlers or twos class
* child's lunch box
Items from Home
PERSONAL ITEMS SHOULD BE LEFT AT HOME OR IN THE CAR.
Teachers will work with children that may need a security item (pacifier, small blanket, stuffed friend, etc) to assist in their transition to preschool. Our goal is that security items will no longer be needed by October 1.
Exceptions to the personal items rule are:
* when teachers have planned a special curriculum activity and request that each child bring a special item (details will be included in the newsletter/calendar)
*Leader Day show-n-tell in our three and four year old classroom
