NEWS AND INFO FOR SLATER STAFF 9.30
Congratulations Team Slater! Parent engagement is growing!
Last week we hosted Grandparent's Day, and it was a huge success. We TRIPLED the amount of grandparent participants, from 60 last year to 184 grandparents this year! Additionally, Grandparent's Day yielded the highest sales in the district. Thank you to Ms. Turner, Ms. Woods, and the team that worked to make this a special day for families. We know the importance of making schools a safe and engaging place, not only for children, but also for families. Let's keep going!
Tuesday is FTE day!
- Full-Time Equivalent ( FTE) refers to data collected for state funding that is based on student enrollment and education services provided by local school systems to students.
- FTE is a ‘snapshot’ or ‘point in time’ of the regularly scheduled instructional services provided to students on that specific date, called the FTE ‘Count Day’.
- Educational programs are divided into seventeen state funded categories. A specific funding weight is assigned to each category. The base amount of money received for each FTE student is determined by the Georgia General Assembly.
We are hosting an AttenDANCE to reinforce the importance of attendance. As a reminder, the goal is for 100% of students and staff to be present this day. Please see Ms. Woods or Ms. Turner for questions.

During the week of 9/23 we saw declines across the board. We sent home 120 messages (50 less) to families and only shared 45 pictures and videos. That’s 35 less pictures than last week. Our positive student feedback dropped to 84%. We are still striving for 90% positive feedback school wide. Please add Principal Kemp, Dean Amos, Dean Moultrie and Coach Turner as co-teachers if you have not done so already. Please reach out to any parents that have not connected with your ClassDojo. Contact Ms. Woods if you need additional support.
October 7th is the World Day of Bullying Prevention and it’s 7 days away! Please represent your stance against bullying by wearing blue on Monday, 10/7!
PBL Timeline
- Project planning (though projects are always living, breathing documents that can be refined based on data and student interest)
- Entry Events
- Project Calendar
- Culminating product (drafts)
This Week:
- Students should be moving toward the end of the project. At this point, students should be receiving feedback on products that are part of the culmination of the project. Students may also be reflecting and revising products.
Next Steps
- Prepare for the PBL Showcase.
- Make sure you have rubrics for the tasks that will be completed throughout the project.
- Make sure that you are following your project calendar to get tasks completed.
- Make connections to the project and the problem everyday.
- Please stop, address and redirect any adult you may see on our hallways without a visitors pass to the front office.
- Immediately intervene anytime you see students in conflict. Remember it only takes a moment for a spark to turn into a fire. Students under your supervision should be monitored closely.
- Mr. Moultrie would love and come to read to your class. Please email him to coordinate a time that is ideal.
The playground can be a fun place. It’s also a place where a lot can go wrong really fast. Although it’s nice to huddle and talk to your peers during recess, it ditracts from active monitoring especially when students are spread across the massive grassy area. Spread out to ensure maxaimum supervision. Monitor student interactions closely. Remember it only takes a second for a spark to turn into a flame.
Students are striving for Caught Being Kind tickets just like this young lady! Keep providing cards to students you caught being kind!
Extra tickets are in the office. You can also use the attached document to print your own.
You should have received a 2 to a page document to report your Tiger Tracker results. Be sure to have a count of the number of students who met the goal and the number of students who achieved the 100% club ready when we come around on Monday.
Culture Resource of the Week
Empathy is the ability to understand how someone else is feeling or to understand the situation they are in. It is the ability to “put yourself in someone else’s shoes” and to understand the way a situation might make them feel. For a deeper look at empathy and children check out this webpage.
Please speak to your students explicitly about empathy during your morning meetings. Here is a video that you may consider showing your students.
