CKE Monday Notes
"If It's to Be, It's Up to Me"
PBIS Kick-Off Assembly (9/30)
This Friday afternoon at 1:00 we will have a school-wide assembly for PBIS. The purpose of this assembly is to highlight PBIS at Coker. We will discuss our houses, PBIS store, making smart choices, etc. We should be finished in about thirty minutes but simply want to make a big deal out of PBIS at our school. With the increase of discipline referrals last year we must focus on the positive and getting buy-in from everyone, especially our students!
System-Wide Lockdown Drill #1 (9/29)
Our first system-wide lockdown drill will be held on Thursday morning between 9:00 and 9:30. Please be sure and review lockdown procedures with your students. See Kay if you have any questions and/or concerns.
TN vs. GA Day
Don't forget to wear your favorite college team apparel on Friday! If you plan to watch the game on Saturday it will be CBS at 3:30. GO DAWGS! OR GO VOLS!?
Leadership Murray Group Visits (9/28)
This year's Leadership Murray group which is organized through our chamber of commerce, will be visiting our school tomorrow morning between 9:45-10:30. These visitors will be in our building for 30-45 minutes. Let's be sure and show them that Cub pride!
PBIS Bus Driver Breakfast & Committee Meeting (9/28)
Tomorrow morning we will be hosting our bus drivers for a breakfast in the cafeteria beginning at 7:30. Tomorrow afternoon our PBIS committee will be meeting after school in the "Cave" to stock the store and prepare for our assembly on Friday.

Growth Mindset for students - Episode 3/5
Growth Mindset Episode #3 - ClassDojo
Discussion Guide - Please take a few minutes this week and share this brief video with your homerooms and complete a journal entry for your class. Please compile these as we progress through all five videos over the next few weeks. Please let me know if you have any questions. These videos are elementary but get the point across regarding a growth mindset.
in Episode 3, "The Power of Yet," Katie realizes she can learn new things, too, and that she can ask others for help!
1. What should you do if you are stuck on a project, math problem, or other learning (teacher can choose a specific situation)?
2. Think of a time you were afraid to ask for help. Why did you feel afraid?
3. Why is the word "yet" so powerful? Think of a "yet" moment in your life and discuss it with your neighbor!
HW Question(s) - Have students ask their parent(s) the following: Think of a time where you just didn't get "it". What did you do in that situation? Could you have made a different choice?

Afternoon Duty
Beginning tomorrow we are going to need two teachers from each grade level on afternoon duty in the gym. Mrs. Jarvis is going to revise her schedule but this has come about not only because we have lost some personnel but also because we haven't been able to open the third post outside. By adding the blue post to our red and yellow we should be able to get students out more quickly. Our hopes are that pick-up be done by 3:30 if not sooner. And that would be GRRREAT but we need everyone's help in getting there!
Attendance Protocol
In the next couple of days I am going to send out a separate e-mail which reviews our Attendance Protocol. Please be sure and read over to make sure that you are clear on our procedures. Remember that Mrs. Powell is now handling attendance for us. Our protocol basically calls for a postcard (please be sure and make a copy of the front and back of the card and keep on file in your classroom) to be sent home at 3 absences (EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED), at 5 absences (EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED) please contact me and I will call a parent, at 6 absences (UNEXCUSED) please contact Angie. Also at 10 absences (UNEXCUSED) you will need to contact Angie as well so that she can contact Tara Jones about setting up an MCRC meeting.
