Our Collective Commitment Corner
A common theme of scaffolding has presented itself over the weeks with our Lesson Study groups, and this is definitely more than affirming; this is cause to celebrate! As we lead our students to their learning targets, we really are constantly challenged with that careful balance of supports and intentionally and methodically removing those supports as we evidence student growth. Through Lesson Study, for example, one of our colleagues reflected that her group helped her think through taking away pieces of her scaffolding and later brought this to fruition.
A specific type of scaffolding has also presented itself through our cross-curricular team time. Whether in ELA or math or even our singletons, we are beginning to grow our stockpile of student work to use as models, examples, and non-examples for future classes and for future years. What a wonderful way to scaffold instruction! By placing student work in front of our students, by placing published work in front of our students, and by placing our own work in front of our students, we are supporting their growth. One of our science teacher’s take-aways this week with his claim, evidence, reasoning work is a testament to just this. “Today was really good feedback, and I appreciate all of the warm comments. I’m going to try to find a way to show them a good written response, even if it’s just me on the board.” Let’s challenge ourselves to gather those work samples across our units, Pirates!

DAY OF HOPE - COLLECTING for a CAUSE
Starting Monday you will see an inflatable pool located by the Pirate and in Paxton. Any student or staff member who donates a game, sports ball, toy, or puzzle will receive a coupon for a free taco from Taco Bell. If students bring their item to their PLT teacher, add their name to a Google doc I will be sending today and we will get them the coupon. (same goes for Teachers!)
MENTORS & FRESHMAN PLT's
Boxes will be located in Freshman PLT rooms and the Mentors and Freshmen are challenged to collect food items. The winning 3 PLT's will have a Dairy Queen outing (ice cream treat) in December during PLT!!! (this includes the Teachers and Pirate Mentors!)
** 9th-grade PLT teachers will be given the list of food items that are needed.
Please encourage our students to donate to the Day of Hope from Monday, November 18- 26!!
