Cyberbullying

Kenedy Pierce and Mariana Sanchez

As school officials we are concerned about how students are treating other peers online. We want teens and parents to understand what is going on online and how it can effect people.

The theme

Bullying can be easier when someone feels like they have more power over others.

This theme connects to OMAM because in the book Curley felt as if he had the most power over people and so he would put down and be a bully and in the modern world teens online feel like they have more power to bully online because they are hidden behind a screen and can do or say whatever they want.

Our beliefs

Over the years social media has become a lot more popular and teens haven't always been taught correctly how to use the internet and with what is right and wrong. Cyberbullying is the most common form of bullying.

CyberBullying Statistics

  • Bullying victims are 2 out of 9 times more likely to consider committing suicide
  • Most cyberbullies have been cyber bullied before
  • Cyberbullying a teen can cause the teen to lose self-esteem or have suicidal thoughts or even try to commit suicide
  • Boys are more likely to be threatened by cyber bullies than girls
