6th graders enjoyed our new library space this week. Mrs. Speck took all of her students down to complete a scavenger hunt and learn about the new space available to them. Students were checking out books, and they were very excited! We have seen a lot of students reading their books this week...which is exciting to all of us! Mrs. Bammer and Mrs. Foster did a great job teaching the students about where to find books and helping students find books that they are interested in.

Dear TMS Family,

We want your child to be successful in school, and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills for learning challenges, making good decisions, handling strong emotions, and getting along with others.

Last week, we finished our Second Steps Unit 3: Thoughts, Emotions, and Decisions. Our students learned how to recognize strong emotions and unhelpful thoughts, and apply strategies to manage their emotions and reduce stress.

After Spring Break we will start Unit 4: Managing Relationships and Social Conflict. During this unit our Students will learn strategies for developing and maintaining healthy relationships, perspective-taking, and dealing with conflict.

In order to keep families engaged throughout the year Tipton Middle School will send out weekly Social Emotional Learning updates to reinforce learning at home. These weekly communications will have a summary of the Second Steps lesson topic and a question that caregivers can use to engage their child in discussions.
