CHARGER CHRONICLES

March 12, 2021

“Look upon yourself as a tree planted beside the water, which bears its fruit in due season; the more it is shaken by the wind, the deeper it strikes its roots into the ground.” -- Margaret Mary Alacoque

Please pray for the families and friends of our SMM community who have asked for our prayers. If you would like us to pray for a loved one, please send Coach Gay an email: gknock@saintmm.org.

For all service men and women; first responders; police; firefighters; health care workers; and everyone who is keeping us safe, protected, and fed during the COVID 19 crisis.

Simone Boell, Dale McCloskey, Ryan Ware, Lorraine Olmo, Jessica Bodron, Krista Soileau, Nicholas Eirich, Carla Hurlburt, Cheryl Walters Swanson, Nicole Forrest, Courtney Palulio, Lisa Ferrer, Mrs. Peterson's Mom, Richard Michell, Patsy Meyers, Robert Carroll, Kathy O'Hanlon, and Michelle Cottam.

For the intentions of the parishioners of St. Luke, St. Genevieve, St. John of the Cross, St. Peter and Paul, and Sacred Heart parishes.

For all those sick and suffering from the Coronavirus, may they recover quickly and completely.

Please Pray for Our Priests

In addition to our requests for prayers for our SMM families and community, we request that you pray for individual priests in our Archdiocese. Our priests need our prayers as much as we need theirs. These priests are celebrating their birthdays this upcoming week. What a great birthday present to have so many people praying for them.

Rev. Damian Hinojosa; Rev. Paul A. Clark; Rev. Victor Cohea; Rev. Jeffrey S. Montz; Pope Francis; Rev. Rodney P. Bourg; Rev. Msgr. John Cisewski

Here is a brief prayer that you may want to use:

Eternal Father, we lift up to you these and all the priests of the world. Sanctify them. Heal and guide them. Mold them into the likeness and holiness of your Son, Jesus, the Eternal High Priest. May their lives be pleasing tp you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen

Important Message from Mr. Collins

Dear parents of 6th and 7th grade Math students:

We have had a difficult couple of years with Middle School Math instruction, due to a series of unfortunate events with personnel changes, which has resulting in some of our students struggling with middle school Math concepts. In order to assist our struggling 6th and 7th grade math students, we have hired Mrs. Kendra Wadleigh to operate our “Math Lab.” The Math Lab will allow more personalized instruction for those who may need remediation or additional assistance to succeed at the current grade level. Students were chosen to participate in the Math Lab based upon their STAR Assessment Scores in Math and a recommendation from Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Wadleigh will collaborate on the materials that should be covered for the students.

Math Lab does not replace participation in their existing Math class; instead, students will be pulled from their second PE and second Library classes. While students will not receive a grade for this class, improvement should be seen in their overall Math performance for Mrs. Smith.

6th grade classes will meet in Room 6 on Thursdays and Fridays from 9:10-10:00; 7th grade classes will meet in Room 6 on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00-10:50. Math Lab will begin on March 18 and continue throughout the 4th quarter.

Spotlight on Former SMM Students

Congratulations to two SMM Alumni who received the 2021Catholic Youth Leadership Award from Knights of Columbus Council 2732. Gabriel (Gabe) LeBreton was honored as the male recipient and Thien-Y (Theresa) Nguyen as the female recipient.

We are extremely proud that you are continuing to grow in your faith; continuing to be leaders among your peers; and continuing to be good Catholic role models for others. Good luck and God bless as you continue your journey in life. In the future, we expect to hear more good news about you and your accomplishments. And please remember:

CONSECRATION TO ST. JOSEPH

In honor of the year of St. Joseph, you may consider consecrating yourself to our Spiritual Father. You will need to purchase Fr. Calloway’s book “Consecration to St. Joseph: The Wonders of Our Spiritual Father" by Fr. Donald Calloway. Drawing upon the long tradition of devotion to St. Joseph, Fr. Calloway invites us to consecrate ourselves to the heroically pure and just St. Joseph. The consecration begins on February 15th and ends on the Solemnity of St. Joseph, March 19th. Our Come Lord Jesus prayer group will meet each week on Wednesday mornings at 9:30am beginning on February 17th to reflect on what has been read and prayed. However, the consecration can be done without attending this group. If you have any questions, you can contact Fr. Dan at ddarmanin@saintmm.org.

LENTEN EVENINGS OF CONFESSION

As has become tradition in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, all Catholic church parishes in the area will offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation for three consecutive Wednesdays beginning March 10. As we continue the observance of the Year of the Eucharist & St. Joseph, the evening of March 24 will be one of not only the Sacrament of Reconciliation but one of Eucharistic Adoration and Exposition.

Feed Your Soul with Prayer this Lent!

Nothing will transform your life so completely, absolutely, and forever like really learning how to pray.

Beginning on Ash Wednesday and continuing through all forty days of Lent, you will receive a daily email with a short video to help you reconnect with yourself and your God.

If you choose to throw yourself into this experience, we promise you that you will be surprised by what God can do in your life with just an email, a short video and an open heart. So this year, don’t just sign up for BEST LENT EVER, have your best lent ever!
