Hybrid Model
Dear Families,
As you probably know, Bob Angeli, Superintendent of Schools, announced at a recent Board of Education meeting that Lebanon Public Schools will begin the 2020-21 school year in a hybrid model of instruction. This mix of virtual and face-to-face instruction will allow for better adherence to guidelines about class size, social distancing and general school health.
At Lebanon Elementary School, this hybrid model will break students into two cohorts, one which meets in-class on Monday and Tuesday (Last name A-K) and a second, also meeting in-class on Thursday and Friday (Last name L-Z). On Wednesdays, students will participate in whole class distance synchronous/asynchronous learning, providing custodians and staff a chance to sanitize the LES building. LES teachers will also provide daily opportunities for synchronous interaction, regardless of cohort, in the form of morning meetings, language arts instruction and math instruction. Teachers will also provide additional learning which could include but not be limited to group/independent work, pencil/paper formatted materials and other asynchronous learning opportunities.
Specialized instruction/services, such as tiered interventions, English language learner instruction, speech/language and/or special education services as required by an IEP, 504 or other individualized plan, will also be provided as appropriate. Should you be hesitant to return your student to school, LPS is also offering a full distance learning option. At LES, these students will have one dedicated distance learning teacher per grade level to allow for daily contact/interaction with students.
As a reminder, should you opt to have your child participate in distance learning, please complete the form linked at: http://www.lebanonct.org as soon as possible. This will allow us to effectively and efficiently complete our class lists for our teachers, students and LES community. In addition, if you have changed your mind due to the implementation of the hybrid model, please contact Chelsea Williams at: chelsea.williams@lebanonct.org.
School Supplies
For the 2020-21 school year, Lebanon Elementary School is pleased to provide students with school supplies for both in-school instruction and for virtual/distance learning. Supplies will include items such as pencils/pens, crayons, markers, scissors and other necessary items.
In addition to supplies, all students, grades K-4, will be issued 1:1 devices this year: students in kindergarten and first grade will receive iPads, while students in second through fourth grade will be issued a Chromebook. LES teachers will be sending grade-level letters next week in regard to safety standards (such as personal water bottles and individual headphones) and general information regarding opening and instruction.
Finally, a HUGE thank you to the LES PTA who purchased LES branded masks for all students and staff! We are incredibly thankful and appreciative of all their efforts and the support they provide for the LES school community.
Class Lists
Please be mindful that class lists may change due to changing safety guidelines and larger class enrollments. At the recent Board of Education meeting, the board supported an additional, one-year fourth grade position to allow for proper adherence to class size and social distancing guidelines should we return to school full time.
In addition to this, due to the number of students opting for the full distance learning option, LES will designate one teacher per grade level as the “distance learning” teacher. These teachers will be responsible for a “Group A” cohort and distance learning students to ensure appropriate daily contact and availability for all students at LES. Class lists will be finalized next week and families will be notified. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we plan for a safe and secure opening to the new school year.
